[…] As Sam mentioned, a lot of the people in the ACNA are refugees from other evangelical systems. They tend to have an idealized picture of Anglican polity and an overly rosy picture of how effective it is for accountability, which the leaders of the ACNA greatly encourage this image. And they don't really know how to participate in polity or what its limits are. They just feel safer here than they did in the last place. So they expect that their Anglican clergy are going to speak out if there is a serious issue. Because, you know, as long as this is an abstraction that is not requiring anything more from them other than to feel sentimental and to feel good about themselves for feeling bad about abuse, you know, their nice clergy will say the right things about some abuse crisis or the other, but will they do the right things?
