The Life of Christ (Mark 11.11-17) | Jesus Clears the Temple 05/31/2026

After Jesus’ Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem, his next step is somewhat anti-climactic. He goes to the Temple, looks around for a bit, then leaves town, back to Bethany where he started. But the following morning, when he returns again to the city, he has a plan, heading straight to the Temple, where he immediately begins to drive out the merchants. So many questions have surrounded this text over the years. Did it really happen? Was Jesus mad? If so, what was he mad about? Should we have coffee shops in church? What does this text mean for us today? Join us as we dive into all the questions, and seek to provide some handles for how this short story challenges us today.

The Life of Jesus | The Triumphal Entry | Pentecost

The first Fourth of July celebration happened on the one year anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The fact of the matter is that the colonies weren't yet free, as the war with Great Britian was still waging. The colonists were celebrating a reality that did not exist yet. In similar fashion, as Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem 6 days before Passover, the people celebrated him as King, although he had not yet accomplished his task. They celebrated a reality that didn't yet exist. When the picture became more clear of exactly who Jesus was, and what he was out to accomplish, the crowds quickly turned on him in favor of someone who better fit their ideas. The crowds worshipped their image of Jesus, without understanding who he was or what he was out to do. Often times, we do the same thing. Join us as we dive deeper into that idea this week as we continue our series through the life of Christ.
