Restoring Your Joy

Spend a few minutes watching the news, or scrolling social media, and you quickly discover

that outrage has become one of society's favorite pastimes. Every day we're told there's

something new to be upset about. Someone said the wrong thing. Someone else got away

with something. Somebody succeeded when others failed. Before long, it seems like

everyone has a laundry list of reasons to be angry.

Somewhere along the way, we've lost something. We've lost joy.

Perhaps that's because joy was never meant to be found in circumstances, fairness,

success, or even favorable outcomes. Those things come and go.

But the joy that comes from Christ – the joy of the Lord – is different. It's deeper. It's steadier.

And it's available even when the world shouts its disappointments at us.

That's what makes John chapter 2 so fascinating.

At first glance, it seems like a simple story, but Jesus isn't merely solving a wedding-day

embarrassment. He's revealing something about Himself and something for us. He shows us

where true joy comes from – and how that joy can be restored when it has run dry.

The same Savior who turned water into wine is still in the business of restoring what has been depleted.
