EP24 - Robin Latham: Activist + Community Organizer

In this episode of Waves , Alexis Leiva sits down with longtime Sonoma County activist and community organizer Robin Latham for a heartfelt conversation about peace work, political activism, alternative culture, and the power of community. What begins as a chance meeting after a film at the Rialto Theater in Sebastopol unfolds into a rich exploration of Robin’s decades-long journey through anti-war organizing, environmental activism, collective living and grassroots movements in Northern California. Together, they reflect on the cultural legacy of the 1960s in Sonoma County, the importance of making “good trouble,” and the deeply human connections that sustain meaningful change. The conversation also dives into Robin’s formative experiences living in Kenya as a teenager, traveling through India and Asia, navigating illness and caregiving, and finding resilience through activism and chosen community. Alexis and Robin explore themes of cultural identity, simplicity, compassion, spirituality, feminism, health sovereignty and the beauty of collaborative living. Woven throughout the episode is a shared love for Sebastopol and the unique spirit of creativity, openness and mutual support that defines the region. This is an intimate and inspiring dialogue about what it means to live with purpose, stay engaged in the world, and continue making waves with compassion, courage and connection. EP22 - Jim and The Peacetown Sonoma Fam

Welcome to Season 2 of the podcast, where we explore the people, stories, and communities that makes waves in the world with purpose, joy and love. In this special episode, I sit down with Jim—better known as Mr. Music—the visionary behind Peacetown, a beloved Sonoma County movement dedicated to “promoting and encouraging peace in the individual, the community, and the world.” When I first arrived in Sebastopol, I kept hearing whispers of Peacetown’s free summer concerts, its vibrant gatherings and the magnetic “Love, Peace and Joy” culture it had nurtured. After attending myself, I fell in love—and knew I had to learn more about how this living, breathing peace community came to life. Recorded/Edited at The Dreamlodge with Craig Wenaweser in beautiful Sebastopol, this conversation is pure uplift. Jim’s presence radiates the very essence of what Peacetown stands for as he shares the Peacetown origin story, the Principles of Peace, and the Ways of Being that guide their movement. It’s a reminder that peace is not only possible—it’s already within us, waiting to be remembered, shared, and lived. Peacetown truly is, "A Beautiful Place to Be.” Join us for a special “Soulnoma Soul Fam” Bash Dec 13th in Sebastopol during the holidays. Jim will lead us in a Beatles Sing-a-long, Reprezent Merch will be in the house for your holiday gift giving, Fllow and Lummingbird will prayer-form uplifting hip hop and reggae, Ecstatic Dancing and good vibes!
