Michael moved from NZ to Australia at 15 and lived a very happy and successful life until it all came crashing down in a psychotic episode, and ended up detained in mental health institutions. He took the opportunity to get better, working with psychologists and medications and now works in the Integrated Mental Health In Patient Unit as a support worker. Living in a small country town he also feared revealing his true self as a gay man and took him many years to come out, but now, having sought help, out and proud, he works for Our Town Cummins where strongly advocates for male mental health in his community.
