About We Like Art

We Like Art is A Comedy show about Art. Comedians Tommy Mavra and Manny Muskets take a hilarious, not-so-serious look at history’s greatest artists and their work. Every week they dive blindly into a slide deck curated by their resident art historian (and fellow comedian) Seth Ruddick. With zero background information, Tommy, Manny, and, sometimes, a guest comedian must dissect the artwork, guess the context, and hilariously try to figure out what on earth is going on. As the slides progress, real factual information is slowly revealed—but don't expect a dry lecture. On this show, historical facts, made-up backstories, bizarre non sequiturs, and pure absurdity are all treated with the exact same level of reverence. Whether you are an art lover or someone who can't tell a Warhol from a can of soup, or a Leonardo from a ninja turtle, or a Van Gogh from a van... that goes, pull up a chair.    William Hogarth: The Roast Beef of England ep 34 with Leo Nguyen and Adam Malev

   William Hogarth painted some of the wildest scenes in British art history. In this episode of We Like Art, Tommy Mavra is joined by guest co-host Adam Malev and comedian Leo W. to explore the paintings of 18th-century British artist William Hogarth. Expect art history, questionable historical knowledge, British slander, and plenty of comedy as the crew breaks down Hogarth’s satirical paintings of everyday life. We take a closer look at Hogarth’s self-portrait with his pug, examine the famous *The Roast Beef of Old England (The Gate of Calais)*, and dive into *The March of the Guards to Finchley*—a chaotic scene of British soldiers, questionable military strategy, and some very questionable behavior. Then we explore *Beer Street* and *Gin Lane*, Hogarth’s powerful visual commentary on drinking, poverty, and life in 18th-century London.
