About Weather With Enthusiasm !

Meteorology, served with genuine excitement — Tornadoes, blizzards, heat domes, lightning: this is a podcast about the forces that drive our weather and the stories behind them. This podcast focuses on weather, especially extremes, and the way it interacts with forecasting. Much of the podcast focuses on the U.S.A. Local Chicago weather is sometimes included. Often a weather synopsis is given for the Midwest. Sometimes a weather synopsis is also given for the East Coast or West Coast. Occasionally, a synopsis is given for other locations within the United States, including the Gulf Coast. In recent months, the Jewish halachic times (called zmanim) have often been included. Chicago & Midwest Heat: 90s, Dew Points, Lake Michigan Winds + 60645 Zmanim | Oct. 12, 2026

An English-language Chicago and Midwest weather update for October 12, 2026, followed by Chicago 60645 zmanim with seconds. WEATHER Based on National Weather Service point forecasts and Area Forecast Discussions available early Monday afternoon. Topics include record-high benchmarks, places forecast to reach 90°F or higher, observed dew points, Tuesday's increasing humidity, the upper-level ridge and southwest warm-air advection, and the role of deep mixing and compressional warming. The episode distinguishes forecast highs from observations and confirmed records. It discusses the Ozark Plateau question without treating an unverified downslope boost into St. Louis as an established fact. LOCAL OUTLOOK Chicago's wind direction is included. Multi-day Joliet and Waukegan forecasts illustrate inland/lakeshore differences and the shift from southwest/west winds to north-northeast winds. Those differences also reflect fronts, latitude, and clouds; they are not a pure measurement of Lake Michigan's effect. ZMANIM Chicago ZIP 60645: Monday evening, October 12, through Tuesday early afternoon, October 13, 2026. Times include seconds and identify the MyZmanim calculation methods. Follow your own minhag and allow a margin before deadlines; sunrise/sunset assume an unobstructed horizon. Other methods can give different times. Tzeis uses the sun 8.5 degrees below the horizon. On October 12, MyZmanim gives 6:55:19 p.m. CDT, 41 minutes 31 seconds after the 6:13:48 p.m. sunset. This is an angle-based calculation, not a fixed 42-minute rule. Baal HaTanya and Gra are mentioned in the narration only for sof zman krias shema and sof zman tefillah. Forecasts and zmanim are date-specific. Check the latest official weather and your current local zmanim before acting. MUSIC “Shiru Lamelech,” piano performance supplied by the host.
