Web Designer Habits - Create a Weekend Out-of-Office Email
The end of the year will be here before we know it, and the holiday rush can make it easy to give away time we meant to keep for ourselves. One simple way to protect that time is to set a weekend out-of-office email that lets clients know when they can expect a response.
In this episode, I talk about why an automatic reply can be helpful even when you're only away for the weekend. A client sending an email on Saturday isn't necessarily expecting an immediate response. They may just be catching up on their own work. Your out-of-office message removes the guesswork and gives you one less reason to check your inbox.
I also share how I handle my own weekend schedule. I close at 4 p.m. on Fridays and work on Sundays, but that doesn't mean I'm available for every client request. I'll walk through what to include in a reusable weekend message, how to explain emergency support, and why it's worth preparing a separate version for holiday closures.

Web Designer Habits - Plan Your Holiday Messages
The holidays might seem a little far away, but they'll be here before we know it! Every year, I try to get a head start on my holiday cards so I'm not scrambling to get everything done in December. With client projects, year-end tasks, and everything else going on, it's easy to put holiday greetings on the back burner.
In this episode, I talk about planning your holiday messages before the season gets too busy. Whether you send printed cards, emails, New Year's greetings, or gifts, taking a little time now to update your client list, choose what you're sending, and set some deadlines can make a big difference.
I also share a few ideas for making the process easier, including mailing services, creating your own cards in Canva, adding handwritten notes, and scheduling digital greetings in advance. You don't need to spend a lot of money or do anything elaborate. It's simply an opportunity to thank your clients for trusting you with their websites and supporting your business throughout the year.

Web Designer Habits - Forget About Inbox Zero
I used to love the idea of ending every day with an empty inbox. The problem was that I rarely achieved it, and trying to get there was exhausting. Eventually, I realized that inbox zero was becoming another way to measure whether I had been productive, even when I had spent the day doing meaningful client work.
In this episode, I talk about letting go of inbox zero and replacing it with a more manageable approach to email. That can mean checking your inbox only a few times a day, using folders and labels to organize messages, turning longer requests into tasks, and shutting off unnecessary notifications when you need to focus.
The goal isn't to ignore email. It's to stop treating an empty inbox as proof that you had a successful day. I'd rather ask whether I made meaningful progress on client work. My goal is billable hours, not answering every single email before I stop working.
