Weird Doctrines: From Sacred To Strange is a grab-bag exploration of the beliefs, stories, and subcultures that live at the edge of religion, folklore, and pop culture. One episode might trace a fringe teaching or prophetic claim; the next might jump into UFO lore, urban legends, oddball history, or why a pinball machine can become a cultural time capsule.
Expect curious questions, careful sourcing, and a mix of humor and seriousness where it matters. If it has ever made you say, "Wait... people really believed that?"—it belongs here.

Inside the Mythology: John and Jed on IHOPKC, Faith, and Psychological Escape | Jed Hartley
John and Jed discuss the strange world of charismatic lore, looking honestly at how supernatural testimonies, miracle stories, and movement mythology shape the inner life of believers. Together, they explore how testimonies are created, how disassociation reinforces spiritual narratives, and why people inside revival culture often feel pressure to reinterpret reality through faith language.
They also reflect on lived experiences--from IHOPKC to YWAM to the Branham movement--and how those environments formed patterns of belief, identity, and internal coping strategies. Through humor, honesty, and psychological insight, John and Jed offer a grounded, compassionate look at how people come to believe extraordinary stories and what it means to rebuild life on the other side of them.

James and John discuss the unusual doctrine about non-cult members, and how that doctrine is intended to bypass the plan of salvation. They critically examine the bizarre and harmful doctrines propagated by these Latter Rain / NAR movements, such as the notion that true Christians are identifiable by their adherence to specific cult practices, like dress codes or loyalty to particular leaders. This elitist ideology creates a sense of spiritual arrogance and judgmental attitudes among followers, leading to a closed-off, insular community. The hosts also discuss the historical roots of these beliefs, tracing back to the early Pentecostal and Latter Rain revivals, and how these ideas have evolved and persisted over time. By analyzing sermons and teachings from various leaders within the movement, John and James reveal the contradictions and manipulations used to maintain control over members, ultimately calling for a return to a more inclusive and biblically sound understanding of Christianity.

The William Branham Historical Research Podcast delves into the strange teachings and practices of the Branham movement, exploring how preachers manipulate and misinterpret historical events and cultural phenomena to enforce their doctrines. John Collins, the author and founder of the William Branham Historical Research at william-branham.org, and his co-host James, unravel the bizarre and often absurd proclamations made by preachers in this movement. In this episode, they particularly focus on the demonization of popular figures like Elvis Presley and Pat Boone, highlighting the outlandish claims made about these celebrities and their supposed negative influence on the followers of the movement.
Throughout the discussion, John and James illustrate how the movement’s leaders distort facts and use fear-mongering to control their congregations. They provide historical context, linking the movement’s origins to white supremacy and exposing the underlying racist agenda. By examining specific sermons and clips, they show how preachers continue to perpetuate outdated and harmful doctrines, further isolating their followers from mainstream society and reality. The podcast serves as a critical analysis of the movement’s manipulation tactics and its departure from the true essence of the gospel.
