Ep 251 Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters
We’re off to the deep dark woods for some fairytale carnage in “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters”. A film in which two former Bond girls knock the shit out of each other; Hawkeye learns not all witches are bad by accidentally sticking his willy in one; and Peter Stormare glowers to little effect. Tommy Wirkola’s first English language film after the success of “Dead Snow” is a bit of a mixed bag; feeling at times like it’s an adaptation from a comic book you haven’t read. It’s concept is great, what became of the titular siblings when they grew up, and adds into that action and a sort of steampunk tech melded to a fairy tale landscape. More an action adventure with horror tropes, but as a pure switch the brain off knock about it does the job well. Watch (or re-watch) to avoid spoilers and join us.

It’s episode 250! And to celebrate the team have decided to play “what if?”. We have all chosen a film outside of the genre to be remade as a horror: Who do you cast? Who’s directing it? Ep 249 Dead Snow
Just in time for some of the hottest weather the UK has ever seen, we’re covering Nazi Zombies on Ice in 2009’s “Dead Snow”. An informative film that details basic avalanche orienteering techniques; the right and wrong ways to use a snowmobile and when not to lick a fat man’s fingers. A simple premise, a sense of humour and some balls out gore make this a fun horror ride. With no one safe and a seemingly never ending hoard of the undead, it manages to keep a level of tension, without having to reign in the humour as the film goes on, a very fine balancing act. Whilst not necessarily a movie for regular repeat viewing, it’s always a great ride while it lasts. Watch (or re-watch) to avoid spoilers and join us.
