Ep. 7 - PUTNEY SWOPE

It's 2021, and we definitely need a diversion from everything that's going on. So how about a movie involving subversion, revolution, a corrupt president who might be overcompensating for his shortcomings, and black rage? But don't worry, it's a comedy. PUTNEY SWOPE is a 1969 time-capsule of a movie about a black man who takes over Madison Avenue and flips it on its head. Written, directed and - we guess, starring*? - Robert Downey, Sr. (yes, Iron Man's dad). Hosted by Ken Green and Angela Sawyer.

*We say "starring" because the voice of the lead actor is actually Downey Sr., who said he did so because the actual lead kept forgetting his lines.

It's available to watch on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPgId7RgQ2E)

Also, apologies for the delay and quality of the sound of show. It's been a trying January for all of us in lots of ways.

How about an entire action movie? Bad Black is a wild, strange action movie shot in the "Wakaliwood," the film-making capital of Uganda - which is actually just one very-inventive guy who reportedly made this movie on a budget of just $65US. But it features some of the best action starts of our day - Bruce Willis*. Arnold Schwarzenegger*. Jean-Claude Van Damme*. Wesley Snipes*.

*None of these people actually appear in this movie, but it does just fine without them. It's an action movie about love, betrayal, justice and revenge. And it's pretty damn funny. A strange masterpiece.

Check it out for free on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sa5kPuDtosQ) or support the movie theater industry by renting/buying it on Alamo on Demand (https://ondemand.drafthouse.com/film/bad-black/)

Ep. 5 - MINI-EPISODE

It's just an itty-bitty, teenie-weenie, mini-episode of WTWS. Just to keep things moving. Ken's talking about where we've been, where we want to go, and how you can help. We'll talk a little about what kinds of strange movies we're talking about when we say "strange movies," we ask for your suggestions on what movie we should look at for future episodes, and our next movie, the Wakaliwood blockbuster, Bad Black, available to watch on Alamo on Demand (https://ondemand.drafthouse.com/film/bad-black/).

Hosted by Ken Green and Angela Sawyer

Find us on Facebook - @WellThatWasSomething
