The Nanny Academy: Interview with Louenna and Jess

Charlotte, Charlie and Millie are joined by ex-career Nannies Louenna and Jess, founders of The Nanny Academy in Cambridge, to discuss their exciting new venture.

Designed for those with a passion for childcare, the 12-week residential course combines hands-on practical learning with a Level 3 accredited qualification. With small cohorts, beginning in January, the programme is tailored to each student's individual experience and confidence, ensuring additional support where it's needed most.

Louenna and Jess explain how the Academy aims to bridge the gap between traditional, academically focused childcare courses and the practical skills required to excel as a professional Nanny. While the qualification includes written assignments, they discuss how the academic elements can be adapted to suit different learning styles.

From newborn care, nutrition and potty training to etiquette and real-life childcare scenarios, this course is designed to equip aspiring Nannies with the knowledge and confidence needed for the role. Above all, Louenna and Jess share their passion for passing on the wealth of experience they've gained throughout their careers.

Podcast Links:

Cystic Fibrosis Trust: https://www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk/

The Nanny Academy: https://www.thenannyacademy.co.uk/

Nanny Academy Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thenannyacademy_/

Sproggle Nanny Agency: https://www.sproggle.co.uk/

Louenna: https://louenna.com/

Get in touch:

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/your_nanny_network/

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/145513705160641

Email: yournannynetwork@gmail.com

Website: https://www.yournannynetwork.co.uk/

YNN Disclaimer:The content on our site is provided for information only. Putting Our Own Children into Nursery/Childminder

In this episode, Charlotte, Charlie and Millie discuss what it's really like when childcare professionals become parents and have to choose childcare for their own children.

Does working in childcare make the decision easier because we know exactly what to look for in a great nursery and can quickly spot the red flags? Or does it make it even harder to hand over our precious little ones, knowing no one will care for them quite like we do?

The ladies explore how it feels to watch your own child form attachments with nursery staff, compared with supporting Nanny children through the same experience. Does seeing attachment from the other side give Nannies a greater understanding of parents' emotions and decisions? They also discuss whether childcare providers feel extra pressure when caring for the children of parents who work in the childcare profession.

Millie also speaks candidly about her decision to become a childminder, sharing how she expects it to change both her family life and her career—for better and for worse.

Charlotte’s DMs

I got to work last week and my boss’ friends toddler was there. And it was just assumed that i would look after her. This has happened before but this time they went out and left me with the 2 toddlers. Is this OK?

Get in touch:

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/your_nanny_network/

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/145513705160641

Email: yournannynetwork@gmail.com

Website: https://www.yournannynetwork.co.uk/

YNN Disclaimer:The content on our site is provided for information only. Nannying Whilst Managing Menopause

Charlotte, Charlie and Millie tackle the often-taboo subject of menopause and its impact on the Nannying profession.

As more Nannies continue working through perimenopause, menopause and beyond, they discuss the realities of adapting to the physical and emotional changes while maintaining the high demands of the role. The conversation explores the importance of open, professional communication with employers about changing needs and workplace support.

The ladies share practical advice on balancing professionalism with the challenges menopause can bring, while also considering the role Nannies can play in normalising conversations about women's health with the children in their care. By encouraging openness rather than silence, they highlight the value of education and understanding across generations.

The discussion also shines a light on the wider inequalities faced by Nannies, with menopause serving as another example of the limited workplace protections and recognition available to those working in private households.

Charlotte’s DMs

Ive been asked to go on holiday with my Nanny family or take the time off. If I take the time off, do they have the right to make me pay the hours back?

Podcast Links

Menopause checklist: https://www.yournannynetwork.co.uk/resource-library

acas: https://www.acas.org.uk/menopause-at-work/supporting-staff-through-the-menopause

Government Overview: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/creating-an-action-plan-guidance-for-employers/overview#supporting-employees-experiencing-menopause

Hosted on Acast.
