Wool, Craft and the Pastoral Life — with Rahul Noble Singh Rahul Noble Singh is a man who wears many hats, and several of them involve wool. Growing up between the UK and India, where his parents ran a travel company, Rahul developed a deep connection to both worlds. That rootedness in two cultures has shaped a career dedicated to building routes to market for pastoral and rural craft communities - the people who raise the animals, shear the fleece, spin the yarn and weave the cloth that the rest of the world barely notices. He currently works with India's Centre for Pastoralism, supporting the rights and livelihoods of nomadic herding communities, and with Rangsutra Crafts, a producer-owned craft enterprise connecting rural artisans to markets. He also runs Miyar Mufflers, a rural wool brand rooted in the Himalayan valleys, bringing the story of pastoral wool directly to the people who wear it. In this conversation, Jo and Rahul explore what it really means to build fair and sustainable markets for communities whose knowledge, skill and way of life are often invisible to the mainstream, and why pastoral wool deserves to be seen, valued and worn.
