Goal orientated
In this episode of Where RU Now? we hear stories of current second-year students who always had one goal: to study journalism. Although some do not necessarily want to be journalists, studying journalism is one way to become artists in their own right! In this episode, how their roads led to Rhodes. Siphesihle Sibaya introduces Leandra Reddy who shares how they ended up in the School of Journalism and Media Studies. Initially not accepted to a Bachelor of Journalism, Amy Bessick remained goal-focused, and her dream was realized somewhere down the road. The School of Journalism and Media Studies allows students to specialize in various media production specialties. It is Valentine Ntusi’s hope to specialize in photography. She tells us how her sister inspired this desire.

The Then and Now
In the second episode of Where RU Now? host, Nikita Baloyi, a member of the second-year podcasting class at Rhodes University, introduces us to three stories told by fellow class members Siya Hhlebani, Lance Myburgh and Mihle Mdashe and how they experienced Rhodes University as first years in 2021. This episode embodies the term ‘the then and now’ by having Robyn Perros and Gorata Chengeta, alumni of the school of journalism, comment on these features and relate it to themselves. The episode first draws attention to the three different yet interconnected features, followed by Perros who speaks on the sense of nostalgia that these features evoke and then Chengeta who makes reference to the challenges she faced as a Rhodes University student.
