The Combahee River Collective Statement (1977)

We read the Combahee River Collective Statement (1977) in its entirety. The Combahee River Collective was a Black Feminist Lesbian organization active from 1974 to 1980 in the Boston area. In their statement they talk about the genesis of contemporary black feminism, what they believe, problems in black feminist organizing, and black feminist issues and projects. The Assata Collective has started a book club, and our first reading will be this statement, and we plan to make all of our readings as accessible as possible and part of that is having an audio option for people. In addition to this being for our book club members it is an offering to our entire community who may want to read and get into radical theory and literature most of which don't have audiobooks or recordings available for free. If you want to receive more information about the book club you can go to our social media. Instagram: @assatacollective Twitter: @assatacollectiv or our Facebook page at Facebook.com/assatacollective and to register for our radical black and brown book club go to bit.ly/31uQPNU the meeting will be on August 29th at 3pm and don't worry if you're listening after this date you can still sign up here for next month's and the forthcoming book club meeting and to be on our book club email list. The book club is only for people of color but if you're not you're still welcome to follow along with the books we are reading every month, here on this podcast as we release more audio and on your own. Happy reading and learning!
