Everybody Knows This Sergeant-Major
<p>Capt (Retired) and former Brigade Sergeant-Major Rob Wishnicki takes us back through over 35 years of his career, looking back at some key moments and lessons.</p><p>Long list of jargon:</p><p><strong>PPCLI</strong> - Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. One of Canada's Regular Force infantry Regiments.</p><p><strong>Op Harmony</strong> - Operation Harmony was the Canadian peacekeeping mission to the former Yugoslavia.</p><p><strong>LFWA</strong> - Land Force Western Area. The Army formation for all of the Canadian Provinces Manitoba and west.</p><p><strong>1RCHA</strong> - 1st Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. One of Canada's Regular Force Artillery Regiments. No, they don't have horses anymore.</p><p><strong>"Number One"</strong> - The commander of the howitzer or gun detachment.</p><p><strong>Ack IG</strong> - Assistant Instructor-in-Gunnery</p><p><strong>RSM</strong> - Regimental Sergeant-Major. The most senior non-commissioned member in a regiment or unit.</p><p><strong>BSM</strong> - Battery Sergeant-Major. The most senior non-commissioned member in an artillery battery or sub-unit.</p><p><strong>Aiming Posts</strong> - before the days of advanced optics, two painted stakes would be placed equidistant from a howitzer sight and parallelism used to aim the gun.</p><p><strong>RIP</strong> - Relief In Place. </p><p><strong>Roto</strong> - Rotation</p><p><strong>ANA</strong> - Afghan National Army</p><p><strong>Chalk</strong> - Typically a group of soldiers on a single airplane.</p><p><strong>CUB</strong> - Commander's Update Brief</p><p><strong>CO</strong> - Commanding Officer (of a regiment or unit)</p><p> </p><hr><p style='color:grey; font-size:0.75em;'> Hosted on Acast.
