[…] First of all, both sides have been mobilizing poll watchers on both the right and the left to ensure that there isn't intimidation or fraud happening on polling days. States are the ones with the constitutionally protected right to determine how elections happen within their borders. Someone tell Trump that. So each state has its own rules, but all of them allow some form of poll observation from outside observers. That's different from the federal government's ability to send in troops to polling places. That is pretty categorically illegal. Trump cannot send armed troops to polling sites. Instead, in a court filing this week, the Trump administration indicated it would send various other federal election monitors not from the FBI or ICE, but from random other agencies like the DEA, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
