Why Make Music…

About Why Make Music…

I’ve been making music for the majority of my life, driven by the melodies and rhythms I hear in my mind and my desire to bring them to life. Music has always been my primary form of expression, something I create for my own pleasure and to share with friends, never seeking anyone’s approval. I’m self-taught, with my own unique take on music theory. My creations may have their imperfections, but I embrace them as part of my artistic journey. Though I’ve experienced being in a band, I ultimately prefer the solo creation process, relishing the total control it offers. Technology has empowered anyone to manifest their own reality, and I’ve chosen music as mine. My work is available on most streaming platforms and music leasing sites. In this podcast, I aim to showcase my creative side, sharing my thoughts, processes, and opinions on my projects, as well as my respect for music as a whole. I discuss timeless influences and explore the question, “Why make music…”—a topic I can endlessly talk about and explore. ThinkTimm… if nothing else!

Why Make Music… Episode 102 - “The Cradle Of Creativity”

Where do songs come from? From imagination? Personal experiences? Politics, religion, relationships, or the completely ridiculous things we encounter in everyday life? In Episode 102, "The Cradle Of Creativity," host Willa May explores the often-overlooked beginnings of songwriting. Before the microphone, the recording studio, or the finished production, there is an idea. And sometimes the most unlikely ideas become the most interesting songs. Using six ThinkTimm recordings from the "If I Was Your Producer" collection, Willa examines lyrical connections, wordplay, satire, cultural references, emotional storytelling, and the ways writers transform ordinary observations into music. "No GOD, People" (Vol. 13) and "Corner Store Steeple" (Vol. 20) explore organised religion, spiritual authority, commercialisation, and the relationship between personal faith and human institutions. From absurd storytelling to gospel-inspired satire, these songs illustrate how humour and exaggeration can communicate challenging ideas. "Deliver Us" (Vol. 8) and "Re-Up Your Fresh" (Vol. 2) examine society through two different lenses. Inspired partly by a family visit to Washington, D.C., "Deliver Us" considers political imagery, historical memory, and personal agency. "Re-Up Your Fresh" explores social media, digital identity, algorithms, cultural trends, and the pressure to seek online validation, incorporating a musical-cultural reference to Prince. "Lyrically DisContent" (Vol. 9) and "Make It Right (Flex Mix)" (Vol. 61) turn the conversation inward. Clever phrasing and playful storytelling give way to emotional vulnerability, creative ambition, self-reflection, and the importance of knowing when to rest, revise, and begin again. Willa shares a SoundCloud snapshot for "If I Was Your Producer Volume 16," including 4,171 cumulative public track plays at the October 30 check, with "Well Known Fact," "Linger," and "Collector of Souls" leading the collection. These figures represent displayed all-time counts, not a seven-day total. Throughout the episode, all six recordings play in three back-to-back pairs, allowing listeners to experience the musical ideas discussed. "The Cradle Of Creativity" is a relaxed, thoughtful, and occasionally humorous exploration of how imagination connects life's scattered pieces and turns them into something worth hearing. Why Make Music... Episode 100 - "We Proceed & Continue..."

WHY MAKE MUSIC… Episode 100 — “We Proceed & Continue…” Episode 100 of Why Make Music… is here — and instead of treating the milestone like a finish line, Willa May turns it into a radio-style celebration of motion, music, and momentum. Following the expansive Episode 099, this special 1 hour 29 minute installment takes a lighter, more musical approach. Hosted by Willa May (DJ Warm Cookies), Episode 100 is structured like a WDMNation MEDIA station takeover: four themed DJ mini-mixes built from twelve songs pulled from across the ThinkTimm catalog, with short hosted segments in between. This is not a retrospective about “making it.” It’s a statement of intent. We Proceed & Continue… reflects on what it means to reach 100 episodes while still building, still learning, and still creating. Along the way, Willa May touches on consistency, artistic growth, creative infrastructure, and the philosophies that have become part of the WDMNation vocabulary: Structure Over Chaos and Built Not Discovered. The episode also includes a brief announcement for the upcoming release of If I Was Your Producer, Vol. 16, arriving Friday, October 23. Featured Mixes / Songs: Mix 01 – The Warm-Up: No Other (Indie Pop Mix), Got Weapons… Check, Your Hands (Indie Mix) Mix 02 – The Deep Cut: Your Favorite Cereal, What U Drinking 2.0, Tokyo By Day (Hangover) Mix 03 – The Turntable Session: Beach (Trip Mix), Spot On (Gritty Mix), Into The Mud (Low Key Mix) Mix 04 – The Continuation: Learning Module (Pocket Brit Mix), Structure Over Chaos (Final Mix), Nobody’s Clappin’ 1.0 Closing Song: Op’s Low Key (Love Me) Episode 100 isn’t the end of anything. It’s another marker on the road. The catalog is growing. The infrastructure is growing. The vision is getting clearer. And the work continues. No applause required. No audience acquired. Just keep creating.
