Nobody Wants to Be Sold: Sales Lessons from Buying a Car

Have you ever walked away from buying something because of how the salesperson treated you? What if the secret to growing your business isn't selling harder, but making people feel genuinely valued? In this episode of the Why Not Today? Podcast, Leslie Kane shares her experience buying a new car for the first time in approximately 35 years after decades of driving Mary Kay career cars. What started as a somewhat intimidating shopping experience turned into a powerful reminder about relationship-based selling, trust, and customer service. From dealerships that made her feel overlooked or pressured to an exceptional experience with Michelle Radley Chevrolet, Leslie shares what influenced her buying decision and why the way people treated her mattered just as much as the price. She also recognizes her trusted insurance agent, Will Frix of Farmers Insurance, who went above and beyond to help her get coverage arranged, even after hours. Whether you're a business owner trying to attract more clients or a consumer making an important purchase, this episode offers practical lessons about creating experiences people want to share. In this episode, you'll discover: Why nobody wants to feel pressured into buying. How small gestures and genuine conversations build trust. Why listening and responsiveness matter throughout the sales process. How exceptional customer service creates loyal customers and referrals. Why selling should be about helping people make the right decision. Special thanks to Jennifer, Ty, and the team at Michelle Radley Chevrolet, and to Will Frix for demonstrating what outstanding customer service looks like. Your Why Not Today? Challenge: Think about your most memorable buying experience. What made it stand out? Now consider how you can create that same feeling for someone doing business with you. Stop Procrastinating and Finally Get Things Done

Have you ever put something off for weeks, months, or even YEARS, only to discover it took just a few minutes to complete? Let's talk about procrastination, those unfinished tasks taking up space in your head, and how to finally get sh*t done! In this episode of the Why Not Today? Podcast, Leslie Kane shares a personal story about putting off updating her voicemail for an entire year. When she finally did it, it took just a couple of minutes! Sound familiar? We all have those unfinished tasks, decisions, and projects taking up valuable mental space. These "open loops" can create overwhelm, distractions, and stress, especially when we keep reminding ourselves about everything we haven't done. But what if the secret to getting more done isn't working harder or finding more time? What if it's simply learning how to take smaller steps? Leslie shares practical strategies to stop procrastinating, break overwhelming projects into manageable actions, eliminate distractions, and build momentum through consistent action. Inspired by insights from neuroscientist Dr. Sahar Yousef's interview on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Leslie explores why we avoid important tasks and how small steps can lead to big results. In this episode, you'll discover: • Why unfinished tasks take up so much mental energy and how to manage those open loops. • How to break big, overwhelming projects into smaller, manageable steps. • Why we often choose easy tasks instead of the important work that moves us forward. • How to use time blocking and a simple notepad strategy to stay focused. • Why celebrating small wins helps build confidence, consistency, and momentum. Your Why Not Today? Challenge Write down three things you've been putting off. Choose one, break it into smaller action steps, and schedule time to take the first step. You don't have to accomplish everything today. You just have to take the next step. Ready to stop thinking about everything you need to do and finally get sh*t done? Why not today?
