WiD Chatter is a new podcast from Women in Defence Careers to help break down some of the barriers and myths around starting or progressing a career in the defence enterprise. In each episode we’ll be having an informal chat with experts and influencers to help listeners learn more about specific topics. In the first series we’ve been talking about such subjects zig zag careers, what the enterprise is – or could be doing – to bridge the skills gap, transferable skills, who is responsible for an individuals learning and development and security clearance.
Women in Defence Careers is an independent job board working in collaboration with Women in Defence UK to drive equality of opportunity in the enterprise. We bring roles to our unique audience that demonstrates the incredible range of roles that defence has to offer.

Episode 10 - Skills Gap
There are plenty of opportunities but not enough people applying. Why? Because applicants don’t realise that they have the skills to suit the roles.
Also, how do we educate the next generation for roles that don’t exist at the moment?
These are just a couple of issues addressed throughout this podcast.

Everything is changing, let’s help it change for the better
Is defence and security an attractive place for women to consider working?
Defence is an engaging workforce with a great balance of employees. Defence isn’t just “Join the Army”, “Join the Navy”, there are many various aspects of defence rather than just putting yourself forward to the front line. Anyone can work in the armed forces, it is a team and needs people at all positions.
“Make your business great by having great people in it, not make business great by having some type of great people in it!”

Progress marches on let's no let it go backwards
In this episode of WiD.Chatter we discuss people and skills to find paths for personnel whether through apprenticeships or with a Small Medium Enterprises, working together with a common mission, being inclusive.
Single apprenticeship portal helps employees become more diverse and role models in organisations make everyone feel welcome.
Defence challenges can be due to nationality, political views, ongoing worldwide events, communications, language and even acronyms.
The main point everyone should remember when applying for roles, and even when in a role, is SELF BELIEF!
