Erich Schmid (1908 - 1984) - Irmtraut Karlsson im Gespräch
Erich Schmid (Wien 1908 – Paris 1984) gehört zu den großen verkannten österreichischen Exil-Malern. Im März 1938 floh Schmid vor den Nazis nach Brüssel. Auch nach dem Krieg kehrte er nie wieder in seine Heimatstadt Wien zurück. Anlässlich der Enthüllung einer Gedenktafel für Erich Schmid am 19. Oktober 2023 an Schmids Geburts- und ehemaligem Wohnhaus in der Webgasse im 6. Wiener Gemeindebezirk habe ich habe mich mit einer der Hauptinitiatorinnen des Projekts unterhalten, Dr. Irmtraud Karlsson vom Vorstand des Vereins „Steine der Erinnerung an die Opfer des NS-Regimes in der Josefstadt“. Dr. Karlsson war u. a. Generalsekretärin der Sozialistischen Fraueninternationale, Bundesfrauensekretärin der SPÖ und Abgeordnete im Bundesrat und im Nationalrat und ist heute freischaffende Autorin.
