Our latest mix is a special 2.5-hour journey recorded live by Likwid and Deep Brown, a super pair of DJs who perform together under the name Best Friends, during their performance at Goa's JUNA back in July.
Being the forces behind institutions like Bleep, Dusdozen, DGTL India, and Forward, Likwid and Deep Brown's partnership goes back through different cities all the way to their home region of Kolkata. The experience translates into the cohesiveness with which the pair maintain the ebb and flow of the 2.5-hour mix.
It is an exercise in stimulation that starts laid-back with minimal and ambient techno before the textures turn more psychedelic and acid-inspired cuts like Eden Burns' 'House Non Stop' 30 minutes in, before the mix slowly enters the funky bass of house for its sustained middle peak. The rhythms of the basslines are slowly substituted by rhythms of drums, as percussive cuts by the likes of Orion Agassi turn the experience heavier, leading us finally deep into the purer and darker grounds of acid house and techno before the pair brings us back down gently.

Wild City #265: Wadjet
Wadjet's mix kicks off with the four-to-the-floor pulse of techno, surrounded by expansive pads and peripheral atonal textures, before breaking into the whirring arpeggios of acid. Usually, these elements accompany introspective, sombre and dark musical journeys. Yet, Wadjet manages to utilise them to create an upbeat and uplifting Wild City mix.
Without losing the mood, the techno pulse moves into funkier mechanical patterns before returning with Breaka's 'Berry Baby Cheeto'. Halfway through, the mood finally turns more onerous as Trejano's 'Just Feel' ushers in a more guttural segment defined by heightened zany sounds and metallic percussion before slowly returning to the light-heartedness with which the mix started.

Wild City #264: Baawra
Hiten Mutreja aka Baawra's Wild City mix is expansive and spacious, but without the tropes of reverb-drenched sounds or large rumbling kicks. Instead, the DJ and Pune party-throwing collective MAUSHI member keeps his techno selections carrying an understated quality, with minimal layers maintaining their hypnosis through delicately morphing melodic repetitions rather than the more obvious approach of sustained textures.
It's around the raunchy vocal samples from a remix of Danton Eeprom's 'All I Can Say' that things begin to change, entering more dramatic sonic worlds with the tense strings of Alex Neri's 'Tenax Roots' before Baawra gradually leads the journey back into percussive and subtle techno. The mix expands and brings together the room through its journey without losing the somatic pulse.
