What is AI safety
As we’ve widely argued in this publication, we might see the development of hugely powerful machine learning systems in the next few decades. These systems have the potential to transform society, and this transformation could bring huge benefits—but only if we avoid the threats.
We think that AI systems' worst-case consequences arise largely because they could be misaligned—that is, they could aim to do things that humans don’t want them to.
In particular, we think they could be misaligned so that they develop (and execute) plans that threaten humanity’s ability to influence the world, even when we don’t want that influence to be lost.
What is AI safety?
AI safety refers to practices and principles that help ensure AI technologies are designed and used to benefit humanity and minimize any potential harm or negative outcomes.
Building safe AI systems is critical for businesses and society due to its increasing prevalence and impact. AI safety helps ensure that AI systems are used responsibly and that the future of AI is developed with human values in mind.
