I am trying to change the way we work, the relationship we have our work and the world around us. We live in a complicated world with a lot of noise. But we need to be making decisions now and those decisions will have ramifications for decades. Will we always make the right decisions; no. But are we doing it for the right reasons I would like to say yes to that - speaking from my heart. This is an audible blog on what I am doing and what we as a business are doing. Some could say it is self promotion, it probably is a bit, I am trying to change the world and be a part of the solution BUT it is also my way to articulate where I am and keep a log of it for my future self and maybe others will learn from my mistakes as I am sure there will be loads!!

How Sustainability Leaders Are Reading This Week's Heat and Reporting News

This week, Europe is sweltering through another record heatwave, Brussels has torn up a chunk of its own sustainability reporting rulebook, and two of the biggest names in food and drink have quietly stepped back from their climate targets.

I run through the top 10 sustainability stories that mattered this week, from AI's rising energy bill to why private equity is suddenly obsessed with climate risk. If you work in net zero strategy, carbon accounting or corporate reporting, this is your shortcut to what's actually worth knowing.

I cover: the EU's CSRD reporting overhaul, Starbucks and JBS pulling back on climate goals, AI data centres and Scope 3 emissions, superpollutants, and the UK heatwave numbers that should worry every business leader.

Subscribe for weekly sustainability intelligence, and get in touch if you want to talk through what any of this means for your organisation.

Learn more about our platform and advisory model: https://www.51tocarbonzero.com

Interested in our referral programme? https://www.51tocarbonzero.com/referral/

https://willsussolved.substack.com/

#Sustainability #NetZero #CarbonAccounting #CSRD #ClimateNews

What Vancouver Gets Right About Hosting a Sustainable World Cup

The 2026 World Cup carbon story everyone's talking about only tells 3% of the truth.

We dug into the real environmental impact of the 2026 World Cup and found six stories FIFA isn't joining up: water stress in North American stadiums, 800 native trees at risk in Mexico City, biodiversity corridors under threat, and a travel footprint that makes up 87.8% of total emissions while stadium operations sit at just 3.1%.

We also found the one host city getting it right. Vancouver's BC Place runs on nearly 95% renewable electricity and sits within a 10 minute walk of 26 public transport stops, decisions made decades before this tournament was ever awarded.

If your organisation runs major events, or you want to understand what real climate strategy looks like beyond the headline number, this one's for you.

Subscribe for weekly sustainability intelligence that cuts through the noise.

Get in touch if you want to talk about how this applies to your organisation: https://www.51tocarbonzero.com

#Sustainability #NetZero #CarbonFootprint #WorldCup2026 #ClimateStrategy

I Built a Million Dollar Sustainability Firm. Then I Lost It. Here's What Net Zero Actually Costs

If you’re building a sustainability business or you’re a CFO who just got a net zero quote that made your eyes water I need nine minutes of your time.

Because I’m about to show you exactly why genuine climate work costs what it costs, and what happens to a business that refuses to charge for it.

I know, because that business was mine.

I built a sustainability consultancy to over a million pounds in annual revenue. Profitable. Growing. Real product-market fit. And I lost it. My family went into debt to keep it alive not because we were bad at the work, we were very good at it but because the market won’t pay what real climate action actually costs.

Stay with me, because by the end of this you’ll understand something most people in this industry only learn the hard way: the real price of net zero, and the one mistake that quietly kills good sustainability businesses. I made that mistake for twenty years. I’ll show you exactly where it cost me.
