Songwriter Michael Carubelli joins John Evans and co-host Eley Buck Davis for Volume 27 of the Songwriter Sessions at Wilson Valley Mercantile. The episode leads into the 83rd Roundup on November 5. Michael is from Killeen, Texas. He talks about getting his start playing barbecue restaurants during the Texas country boom and why songwriting pulled him in. He covers his first EP, Here We Go (2012), and his recent singles, including "My Dad Builds Homes." He also tells how he asked Roger Creager to sing on "I'm Gonna Need Another Beer for This" by writing him a letter. He closes with advice for new songwriters: sit in a room, "suck," and do it your own way.
