Winds of W Mountain

About Winds of W Mountain

Well now, welcome, neighbor, to Winds on W Mountain, where tales as old as these hills—and twice as twisted—whisper their way to you, when the mood strikes and the wind's right. We ain't much for schedules; episodes waft in like smoke from a Shatagee Woods Adirondack Mountain campfire, carrying yarns spun by old-timers, tall tales shared by summer folk clutchin' their city ways, and the kind of uncanny musin's that make web-gawkers wonder if we’re history or hysteria. So, pull up a log, pour some milled cider, and let’s see if these winds are breathin' truth or just ghostin’ us all.

   The Old Iron Keeps Working

⚙️ THE OLD IRON KEEPS WORKING 🌫️ WINDS OF W MOUNTAIN PRESENTS From the East Bellmont Signal Desk ⚠️ LISTENER ADVISORY This broadcast contains theatrical disappearances, abandoned industrial machinery, contaminated Adirondack wetlands, unusual animal behavior, and musical disturbances involving creatures of Chateaugay Lake. Listener discretion is advised, particularly near retired boilers. Wal, there's a good reason nobody around East Bellmont throws away old iron. It ain't sentiment. It's the suspicion that certain pieces haven't finished what they started. In Brainardsville, 1917, a young actor named Emile Gadway disappears during a theatrical performance. The trail leads toward the gutted boiler of the old steamboat Adirondack. Nobody's prepared to accuse the boiler of anything. “That would require paperwork.” — Johqu Bogart Meanwhile, at Standish, an abandoned ironworks appears to have left its occupation to the surrounding swamp. Warm water, glowing mud, and something large moving through the reeds suggest that closing a furnace does not necessarily stop the work. And out on Chateaugay Lake, a band of steamboat pirates assembles musical instruments from rusted iron. They call the resulting racket Bogcore. The water begins keeping time. Then the serpents answer. Can an old machine retain the habits of its former employment? And what happens when the country around it starts learning them? Three peculiar accounts. One troublesome proposition. And an East Bellmont production crew taking unusual precautions with the coffee pot. Old iron keeps working. Worse, it appears capable of training replacements. 🎙️ Join Johqu Bogart for another unsettling excursion into the peculiar affairs of the North Country. Pull up a chair near the stove. But don't encourage it. ⚙️ #WindsOfWMountain #TheOldIronKeepsWorking #ShatageeWoods #ChateaugayLake #EastBellmont #BrainardsvilleMystery #StandishIronworks #AdirondackFolklore #LakeGitaskog #NorthCountryMysteries #SteamboatDispatch #BogcoreMusic 🌫️

   Work, Wind, & Underground Traffic

🎙️ WINDS OF “W” MOUNTAIN PRESENTS: WORK, WIND, AND UNDERGROUND TRAFFIC An Announcement Somethin's been goin' on around Chateaugay Lake. We've got three explanations for it, each one perfectly satisfactory till the next fella opens his mouth. I'm Johqu Bogart, and on the next Winds of “W” Mountain Presents, we've got three stories that don't appear to have much of anything to do with one another. That was some comfort at first—though we've since gotten a good deal less particular about what passes for comfort. 🌫️ Our first story takes us out Tobacco Road way, where a certain gentleman has spent a good portion of his life explainin' why other folks ought to mind their own business. He's got no use for mysteries, even less for the people who find 'em, and absolutely none for anybody who'd rather discuss a peculiar noise than get back to work. His explanation is sensible, don't cost a cent, and ought to settle the whole affair—provided the affair has the decency to stay settled. 🎶 Our second story brings us over to the old ironworks at Popeville, where somebody has taken an interest in machinery that'd been gettin' along perfectly well by bein' abandoned. What follows involves a certain amount of musical ambition, some questionable judgment, and the possibility that old iron remembers more than it's ordinarily called upon to demonstrate. Whether the result constitutes an improvement depends a good deal on where you're standin'—and there's folks who'd recommend standin' somewhere else. 🗺️ Our third story concerns "Uncle" Dick Shutts, who has developed an explanation for certain local mysteries that involves rather more geography than anybody figured on. Dick's got a theory, a map, and enough confidence in both to make you wonder whether the rest of us have been lookin' at the country from the wrong side. Can't rightly say whether he's cleared anything up, though considerable portions of the North Country now appear to require further investigation. The production gang over at East Bellmont hasn't found any particular reason to connect these accounts; unfortunately, we can't say the same for the folks mixed up in 'em. So join us for Work, Wind, and Underground Traffic, on Winds of “W” Mountain Presents. We've got three stories, a fair number of sensible observations, and some conclusions that cover considerably more ground than anybody asked for. You might want to hear all three before makin' up your mind. The first fella's certain there's nothin' to it, the second has given us reason to listen a little closer, and by the time Dick gets through, you may find yourself reconsiderin' a few things you've been walkin' over all your life. We'd tell you more, only somebody already has, and that's pretty much where the trouble started. Best come hear it for yourself—once these stories get around the lake another time or two, there ain't much likelihood of anybody agreein' on what happened in the first place. #WindsOfWMountain #ChateaugayLake #TobaccoRoad #PopevilleIronworks #UncleDickShutts #NorthCountryFolklore #AudioAnthology #MysteryFiction #DryHumor #UndergroundTraffic

   The Answering Seam

STOVE NOTICE: “THE ANSWERING SEAM” — WINDS OF W MOUNTAIN PRESENTS 🪵📻🕳️ **SHATAGEE GITASKOG'S INN, UPPER CHATEAUGAY LAKE, N.Y., 3 AUGUST 2006.—**A notice has been tacked beside the stove concerning Oscar Chase’s least respectable pencil mark: a line running from the Chateaugay Chasm, beneath Brainardsville farm ground, past the old Grange, and toward Upper Chateaugay Lake. STOVE-SIDE ADVISORY: This account contains iron, paper, eight suspicious pounds of Russet potatoes, one actor misplaced beyond ordinary geography, and a steamboat boiler behaving like a musical instrument. The potatoes are reportedly innocent, which is precisely their strongest evidence against them. George Collins once closed a future hotel with contradiction and a well-aimed apple pie. Years later, matter began repeating itself, Emile Gadway vanished after being shown how, and the Sonic Spellbinder played back something the country had stored without permission. What, exactly, was traveling beneath Chase’s thin pencil line? “I sez, any seam that answers before you finish askin’ has been laid wrong.” Those inclined to test that opinion may set the receiver near the stove after dark, keep the lamp trimmed, and avoid produce displaying excessive agreement. Tomorrow has already shown an interest in the accommodations. #WindsOfWMountain #TheAnsweringSeam #ShatageeWoods #ChateaugayLake #Brainardsville #NorthCountryFolklore #AdirondackMystery #WeirdHistory #AudioDrama #TallTalePress #EastBellmont 🥔🔥📻
