   Madrona Vineyards - Paul Bush

Madroña — Where the Mountains Shape the Wine What happens when vineyards rise to 3,000 feet above sea level, where mountain air, deep soils, and a remarkable diversity of grapes come together? In this episode of Wine Soundtrack USA, host Allison Levine takes us to Madroña, a family-owned winery in California’s El Dorado County, where altitude is not simply part of the landscape—it is part of the identity of the wines. Madroña is built around three distinctive family vineyards: the Madroña Vineyard in Apple Hill, and the Enyé and Sumu-Kaw Vineyards in nearby Pleasant Valley. Together, they are home to more than 26 grape varieties, carefully chosen for their individual characteristics and their ability to create exceptional blends. From Rhône to Bordeaux varieties, the high-elevation vineyards benefit from well-drained soils and mild temperatures, producing fruit with the balance and maturity that form the foundation of Madroña’s estate-grown and estate-bottled wines. But Madroña isn't simply about altitude or grape varieties. It is a story about a family, the land, and a distinctive approach to growing wine in the mountains. Allison Levine explores what makes these vineyards so unique and why the Sierra Foothills can produce wines capable of moving effortlessly from the dinner table to a relaxed afternoon with friends. Behind the stories of Wine Soundtrack USA is Claudio Latagliata, Producer of the podcast, whose passion is bringing the people and places behind American wine directly to listeners. Known as “The Winery Fixer”, Claudio has a particular talent for finding the personalities, unexpected journeys, and authentic stories that make every winery more than just a name on a bottle. Join Allison Levine and discover Madroña—where mountain elevation, family vineyards, and more than 26 varieties come together to create wines with a true sense of place. Wine Soundtrack USA — because the best way to understand a wine is to hear the story behind it.

Element 79 Vineyards - Les Heinsen

Element 79 Vineyards — A Love Story Written in Gold What if a love story could become a vineyard—and every bottle could carry a piece of a life built together? In this episode of Wine Soundtrack USA, host Allison Levine meets Les Heinsen of Element 79 Vineyards, and discovers a remarkable journey that began with two people from North Dakota who never imagined wine would one day become such an important part of their lives. Les and Sharon moved to California in 1991. What started with casual visits to Napa, Sonoma, and the Sierra Foothills gradually became a genuine passion. Tastings became collections, collections became a wine cellar, and eventually, with a group of friends, they began making wine themselves. Then, in 2016, everything changed. They found 70 acres of “Vines and Pines” in the Fair Play AVA, sitting at an extraordinary 2,400 feet of elevation. Thirty-two acres were planted to vines, surrounded by forest, meadows, natural habitat, and a seasonal stream. For Les and Sharon, it was love at first sight. That same year, after a 38-year career with Aflac, Les retired and devoted himself fully to the dream they had been building together. They called it Element 79—a name that connects California’s Gold Country with something even more personal: 1979, the year they married and the year Les began his career at Aflac. Today, Element 79 is a true estate wine destination, producing wines from its distinctive vineyards of Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Viognier, Cabernet Franc and other varieties. Its decomposed granite soils and high-elevation setting provide the foundation for wines deeply connected to their place. From the beautifully designed “urban rustic” tasting room to the 14,000-square-foot state-of-the-art production facility, every step reflects the same philosophy: build something authentic, personal, and made to last. Join Allison Levine and Les Heinsen for a conversation about love, retirement, risk, Gold Country, vineyards, and the courage to turn a passion into a legacy. Because at Element 79, you aren't simply visiting a winery. You are stepping into Les and Sharon’s story. Behind these conversations is Claudio Latagliata, Producer of Wine Soundtrack USA, bringing together the people and stories that make the American wine world so fascinating. And as “The Winery Fixer”, Claudio has a particular instinct for finding the personalities, journeys, and hidden stories behind the bottles—then putting them in front of Allison Levine and the Wine Soundtrack USA audience. Listen to Element 79 Vineyards with Les Heinsen—and discover a winery where gold isn't just part of California's history. It's part of the story.

   Site - Jeremy Weintraub

Site — Where the Vineyard Leads the Winemaker What if the best way to make wine is to forget about having a formula? In this episode of Wine Soundtrack USA, host Allison Levine sits down with Jeremy Weintraub, the winemaker behind Site, to discover a philosophy built around one simple idea: let the vineyard and the vintage speak for themselves. Site works with fruit from just three extraordinary California vineyards: Bien Nacido Vineyards for Syrah, Larner Vineyard for Syrah, Grenache and Viognier, and Stolpman Vineyards for Roussanne. The result is a remarkably focused portfolio where each wine begins with a sense of place. Jeremy approaches every vintage with a fresh eye and an open mind, avoiding rigid winemaking dogma and adapting his decisions to what the vineyard gives him. But Jeremy's story extends far beyond California. His winemaking and grape-growing experience has taken him through Paso Robles, Santa Maria, Central Otago, Martinborough, Tuscany and Long Island, before leading him to his current role as winemaker at Adelaida Cellars in Paso Robles. Previously, he was winemaker at Seavey Vineyard in Napa Valley. That international experience has shaped a style that is curious, precise, and constantly evolving. Join Allison Levine and Jeremy Weintraub for a conversation about vineyard expression, instinct, experimentation, and why sometimes the most important thing a winemaker can do is simply listen to the land. Wine Soundtrack USA goes behind the bottle to discover the people, philosophies, and places shaping American wine. Produced by Claudio Latagliata, Producer of Wine Soundtrack USA and known within the wine world as “The Winery Fixer”—connecting the people and stories that make every episode worth hearing. Listen to Site with Jeremy Weintraub and discover what happens when a winemaker stops imposing his vision on the vineyard—and starts listening to it.
