Episode 287: What's Happening to Quality? Why We're Changing How We Build and Sell Custom Rifles in 2027
Are we losing quality and craftsmanship in the firearms industry?
In this episode, Jamie takes a hard look at a growing problem in the custom rifle industry: expensive components that don't fit, manufacturers that aren't holding tolerances, and customers left dealing with problems that should have been caught before the products ever shipped.
From magazines that won't fit their own manufacturer's chassis to improperly machined stocks and bedding issues, we're seeing more quality control problems than ever before. And when you're building a precision rifle, every component matters.
But rather than just complain about the problems, we're doing something about them.
Jamie shares some major changes coming to Wolf Precision in 2027, including our decision to deliver fully assembled, tested, and proven custom rifles. We'll also explain how we're bringing our rifles, the Wolf Pack online training programs, and our exclusive hands-on Build Assist and Private Range Day experience together.
In this episode, we discuss:
What's happening to quality control in the precision rifle industry?
Why expensive components don't always mean better quality.
The growing problem of tolerance stacking and parts compatibility.
Why Wolf Precision is moving toward fully assembled and test-fired rifles.
How our Wolf Pack training programs help customers get the most from their rifles.
Our new 10% Wolf Pack member discounts on custom rifles and Long Range Shooting School tuition.
The exclusive Build Assist and Private Range Day experience.
What's coming in 2027 for Wolf Precision and our customers.
Our philosophy is simple: A premium custom rifle should work perfectly from the moment you receive it, and you should have the knowledge and training to get everything possible out of it.
Join us as we discuss why we're making these changes and how we believe they'll make the entire rifle ownership experience better.

S9 Episode 286: Mastering the Wind: Learn to Go Slow to Go Fast!
Can you really beat the wind with a bigger caliber, heavier bullets, and a higher BC? Or are you simply trying to buy your way around a skill you haven't mastered yet?
In Episode 286 of Wolf Precision's Long Range Shooting and Custom Rifle Building Podcast, we discuss one of the most challenging aspects of long-range shooting: learning to read and master the wind.
Drawing lessons from sailing, motorcycle trials riding, and decades of long-range shooting experience, we explore a simple philosophy: Learn to go slow to go fast.
We'll discuss why smaller calibers like the .223 Remington and .22 ARC may be some of the best training tools available, how shooting a more wind-sensitive cartridge develops confidence and skill, and why becoming a better shooter is more valuable than simply upgrading your equipment.
I'll also share a story about shooting .223 rifles successfully at 700, 800, and 900 yards in windy conditions, and explain why those experiences made us better shooters with our competition rifles.
Plus, updates on our new 6GT ACE Chambers and the future of our long-range shooting school rifles.
And here's something to think about: What if I told you that a mighty .338 gives you less than a 2 MPH wind advantage over a .223 at 1,000 yards on a 22-inch target? We'll explore that comparison in our next episode.
You can't beat Mother Nature into submission. You have to learn to work with her.

S9: Episode 285: Wet Mounting Scope Rings — Better Installation or Less Holding Power?
Wet mounting scope rings is gaining attention in the precision rifle world—but does adding lubricant between your scope mount and Picatinny rail actually improve the installation, or are we giving up friction that helps keep everything locked in place?
In this episode, Jamie shares what we recently encountered during a Long Range Shooting School when a rifle arrived with a wet-mounted scope system. After tearing the rifle down and working through repeatability and point-of-impact issues, it raised some important questions.
We dive into:
The difference between torque, clamping force, and friction
Why 45 inch-pounds of torque doesn't tell the whole story
What happens to surface friction when lubricant is introduced
Using the crossbolt as a recoil lug versus relying on clamping friction
Recoil, roll, yaw, vibration, and movement in a precision rifle
Why Wolf Precision has traditionally dry-mounted scope rings
More than 20 years of experience removing and reinstalling optics on school rifles
Why a new mounting technique deserves testing before automatically becoming the new standard
This isn't about saying one company or method is right or wrong. It's about asking the mechanical question:
If maximum grip and zero movement are the goal, does lubricating one of the most important mounting surfaces really help us get there?
Sometimes the newest technique deserves a closer look before we add it to the toolbox.
We also give updates on the Practical Tactical Shooters Challenge, our 2027 Long Range Shooting School schedule, the upcoming Immokalee, Florida class, and new Wolf Pack training content.
