Erstmals wurde im Sommer 2025 ein Mensch von einem Wolf angegriffen – ein Vorfall, der die Debatte neu befeuert. Auf EU-Ebene wurde der Schutzstatus des Wolfes von „streng geschützt“ auf „geschützt“ herabgesetzt, was nun den Weg für mehr Abschüsse ebnet. In Teilen Norddeutschlands gilt der Wolf offiziell als ungefährdet, und die Population wächst rasant weiter. Sogar ein neuer Konkurrent, der Goldschakal, etabliert sich.
