Cassandra DeWinter - Overall Champion of the Javelina 100k
Cassandra DeWinter came to the Javelina 100k under the radar, quite new to the sport on any surface. She left as the overall champion, setting a new women's course record by 29 minutes and finishing in the third fastest time ever, all-gender!
Cassandra is a former elite rugby player, mother of three, proud Canadian, and only started exploring running as a competitive sport in 2025 after having her children. In that short time, she's run a 2:34 road marathon, won every trail race she's entered, and is only at the tip of exploring her potential.
She brings a lot of joy, passion, and thoughtfulness along with her, and is a real force to watch for the miles ahead!

The Trail Running Sisterhood Scholarship, with Angie Lake
Applications open TODAY for the 2027 Trail Running Sisterhood Scholarship!
To help kick this program off, we're hanging out with Angie Lake - director of Wild Woman Trail Runs, the first all-women's trail marathon and 50K in the US.
Angie is the creator of the Trail Running Sisterhood, a scholarship from The Cairn Project that gives women coaching, gear, and community for their first 50k or half marathon. In 2026 its inaugural cohort raised $23,600 to get more women on trails and diversify trail media.
In 2027, they're doubling their initiative and offering 36 scholarship opportunities! Give this episode a listen to learn more about the project, and please give it a share to help spread the word!

In the midst of a year of trying new things, Carmen Graves laced up for her first ever 50k at the Kodiak Ultramarathons - running her way to second place at the UTMB North American Final!
Carmen comes from a track and road background, where she experienced a lot of success over a lot of years as a steeplechaser. She’s also the co-founder of Denver Athletics, and runs professionally with the support of Merrell and Open Fuel; all in addition to her full time job as a case worker.
