Fatherhood, Disability, and Discovering the Delight of God with Brandon Boyd

“What if what God gave you to delight in has been right in front of you all along?” For many people in the disability community, that question is deep. But that is exactly what we are going to talk about—the tough stuff and the beautiful stuff of raising a child with a disability. Today, I am talking with Brandon Boyd, author of Delighting in Ben: A Father and Son, Discovering the Delight of God. Brandon shares what he has learned after his son, Ben, who has the rare genetic disorder FoxP1 syndrome, was born. We learn why nonspeaking does not mean nonconnection, what’s more important than achievement, and how a trip to McDonald’s changed his whole life. Lots of really encouraging stuff today. So, without further ado, please help me welcome our guest, Brandon Boyd. Brandon Boyd bio: Brandon Boyd has spent nearly three decades on the front lines of collegiate ministry with Cry, walking alongside students and families through life’s most defining moments. A husband, father, and speaker, Brandon brings rare warmth and candor to the callings that matter most; faith, family, and fatherhood. Connect with him at delightinginben.com, and on Instagram @delightinginben More from Brandon: Visit his website at delightinginben.com (https://www.delightinginben.com/) Connect on Instagram @delightinginben (https://www.instagram.com/delightinginben/) Buy his book – Delighting in Ben (https://www.amazon.com/Delighting-Ben-Father-Discovering-Delight/dp/B0GZFS3JNM/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1SICKXNJPV39J&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.WFEDEmNKtcX_7zUk4YpM6hghf4WN577mUDKIGuvfHNE_8t3C_6r4OuqNoHK7O4Do.CSZP-ICMbnkAQVSCQrt3x53w2ccUp5hNvx5eW8C2PTs&dib_tag=se&keywords=delighting+in+ben&qid=1791399010&sprefix=delighting+in+ben%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-1) on Amazon today. A quick note on disability terms: Before you listen, I wanted to talk to you about something important about our podcast, and that is how we will be referring to disability during our discussions. We want you to know that at Wonderful Works Ministry, we know that words matter. We will strive to use preferred language regarding disability. But we also understand that preferred terms change over time and also can be subjective and vary from person to person, even among those with a shared diagnosis. With this in mind, we ask that you understand that we, here at Wonderful Works, and our guests may use a variety of terms on this show and in our resources. Please know that we will always approach language with inclusion, dignity and respect, and we hope you will too. Thank for listening! One more quick note: The views and opinions expressed in our show are those of our guests and do not necessarily reflect those of Wonderful Works Ministry.
