Adam, Where Art Thou?

This episode is a reading of the Sermon - Adam, Where Art Thou?

by Dennie Russell

Adam, Where Art Thou. Gen. 3: 1-9 Gen 3:1-7 Now, the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. 7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. 8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? (Opening Prayer) The very first thing that happened after news reached heaven of the fall of man: God came straight down to seek that which was lost lost. As He walks through the garden in the cool of the day, you can hear Him calling “Adam! Adam! Where art thou?” It was the voice of the Good Shepherd seeking His lost sheep, but Adam ought to have been the seeker, for he was a now a sinner separated from God. He had fallen, and he ought to have been found running throughout the garden crying out, “My God! My God! I have sinned—have mercy on me—Lord, where art Thou?” The precise moment a man is out of communion with God, he wants to hide from Him. When God left Adam in the garden, he was in communion with his Creator, and God walked and talked with him; but now Adam has no desire to seek or talk with his Creator. He has lost communion with God and could not bear to see Him, or even to think of Him, and he runs from God to hide himself amongst the trees. God knew precisely where he was hiding and he cried out, Adam? Where art thou?” Page 2. We have briefly touched on the Biblical story of the fall of man, the account of sin that first entered into the human race and made us, the sons and daughters of Adam, Sinners Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin: and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. 13 For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law God had given Adam just one simple law of which he must comply. Gen 2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. In Genesis, one: God created the heaven and the earth, and every living creature therein. And on the sixth day, God created man out of the dust of the earth. God created man in his own image, pure and holy, without spot or blemish—He breathed the breath of life into his nostrils and man became a living soul. God said it is not good that man should be alone: the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he took one of his ribs and made a woman and brought her unto the man. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and they were not ashamed. Gen. 2: 8 And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden and there he put the man whom he had formed God placed Adam and his wife Eve in this beautiful garden—their every need was provided for, there was no pain or
