Phil Farrington
<p>Today my Guest is Phil Farrington, Phil spent 22 years in The Royal Air Force before moving into civilian life to work as the Head of Food Safety for organisations including Harrods and Delaware North.</p><p>In the podcast we talk about the challenges Phil faced in transitioning from working in the armed forces to commercial businesses. The skills that he could transfer to the workplace but that attitudes he couldn’t. </p><p>We talk about the compassion Phil has received at work and how working with a clinical psychologist has been pivotal for Phil to better understand and manage his mental health. </p><p>Phil gives a candid account of his challenges, how he’s re-evaluated his priorities and why his new Alsatian puppy has been one of his saviours during a difficult period. </p><p>Phil shows great courage in this discussion, and I really appreciate him for coming on the podcast to share his story and I hope it helps anyone out there suffering in the workplace. </p><hr><p style='color:grey; font-size:0.75em;'> Hosted on Acast. <p>My guest today is Wendy Spinks, Wendy is the Commercial Director for High Speed 1, who own and operate the UK’s first section of high-speed rail, as well as the stations along the route: including St Pancras International, that connects London to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam </p><p>In the podcast, we discuss how the volume around compassion in the workplace is being turned up, how the Me-Too campaign was a catalyst for this shift and how Wendy uses gardening to help her work life balance.</p><p>We talk about how the pandemic has impacted HS1, the difficult conversations held with stakeholders, and Wendy’s views on the future challenges for hybrid working. </p><p>Wendy believes transparency is increasing in business and we discuss why that’s a good thing and how having more balanced boards in the future will give businesses a different dynamic.</p><p>As my previous landlord Wendy was a great supporter of Prime Burger an independent business that I owned and operated at St Pancras for many years, it was a pleasure to meet up again and have a conversation about compassion in business.
