Writing and Grief on a Global Scale During the Pandemic

I realized this morning that we are all in a state of communal grief on an epic and global scale. I've shared some tips on the effects of grief on writing, and some suggestions for ways to manage it so you can get to your writing -- or not, if that feels better--during this emotionally challenging time.

Just Breathe to Calm Your Body and Your Mind

One of the easiest ways to calm writer anxiety--especially during the added stress and uncertainty of the pandemic--is to breathe. I had a whole different episode planned for beginning this podcast, but breathing is extra high on my priority list right now, as I'm sure it is on yours. Trailer

You’re a writer and nothing is more important than your words.

Well, maybe the cat, who will devour you in your sleep if you don’t feed her. Or the kids. Or, let’s admit it, probably a day job.

Getting healthy might be way down your list of fun things to do. Your doctor does not understand your urgent need for a caffeine IV drip and chocolate coated writing snacks. The health gurus don’t get the well known fact that writing time replaces sleep. And the mental health people don’t have a clue what to do about the multiple conflicting voices in your head all the time and your writerly angst.

As a working writer, I get where you’re coming from. I’ve also worked in traditional medicine and mental health. I’m trained as a creativity coach and I’m a bit of a whole health junkie.

I’ll offer bite-sized information on mind, body, spirit and creative health designed to get the most out of your writing life. Always inspiring, never guilt inducing. Hey, I’m a largely sedentary, coffee-guzzling wine drinker so there’s no room for pointing fingers.

At the same time, I’m on a quest to bring more balance of mind, body, spirit and creativity into my life. Join me? We can do this together, one small step at a time.
