Podcast Overview

The WSB Show podcast is a weekly released show (on Tuesdays) designed for those who are interested in learning the Bible from a Hebraic or Jewish point-of-view. Your host Scott Whittle is on a personal endeavor to learn and teach Torah from kosher Jewish sources and biblical scholars. However, the goal is to help people establish a new level of understanding of the Scriptures through the lens of Judaism and scholarship. The task is to keep this ancient document accessible and to understand it’s original context. Currently, we are doing a systemic study through Genesis (Bereshit). In the future, we anticipate conducting guest interviews and product/book reviews to help you strengthen your understanding of the Scriptures. This is the official podcast for the continually developing website Whittle Study Bible.

004: Genesis 1 Commentary: 7 Days of Creation Pt. 2, Commentary on Bereshit

In the Genesis 1 creation story, days 2 and 3 are linked in a very special way. We discuss two reasons why the second day is not seen as good. We explore the firmament (raqia) and Rabbi Cassuto's explanation of it. We also compare the various English translations and their depicted meaning. We delve into the the plants and trees as the Hebrew reveals it's true meaning.

We also compare our creation story to the epic poem of Gilgamesh. Furthermore, we take a look at how the poets and prophets of the Tanak use a similar story in their writings. This will clarify some of the ideas about dragons and sea monsters.

003: Genesis 1 Commentary: 7 Days of Creation, Commentary on Bereshit

The creation story of Genesis 1 and 2 contains a golden thread the ancient Hebrews would have seen and understood. This thread creates a cohesion. Unfortunately, it is immediately lost in the English translation. Comparing the JPS Translation to the Hebrew text we can recreate this golden thread. (Don't worry, you do not need to know or read Hebrew to see and understand the information shared here. We are using downloadable worksheets to make this information accessible to everyone.)

In episode 003, "Genesis 1 Commentary: 7 Days of Creation" we dive into the first five verses of Genesis 1. Using the golden thread, we explain the major theme of this section of Torah. We also discover some details about the first acts of creation.

For Downloadable Resources and Show Notes visit us at:
https://www.SWWhittleStudyBible.com/003-genesis-1-commentary-7-days-of-creation-commentary-on-bereshit
