Jon Richmond started with one cold plunge tub and 20 people at a local brewery. One year later, Run Roast Refresh is pulling 500 plus people every single month and it is just getting started.
Jon joins the Yapaholics Podcast to talk about building something Pensacola genuinely needed.
Run Roast Refresh is a monthly wellness and community event in Pensacola that is completely alcohol free. A run, a cold plunge, infrared sauna, red light therapy and a room full of people who actually want to connect. Jon built it because he saw a gap in the social scene here. The beach and the bars have always been Pensacola’s thing, but there was nothing for people who wanted to make real friends without alcohol being the reason they were in the same room. In this episode we talk about how the event grew from 20 to 560 people in just a few months, what the one year anniversary Halloween event at Fairfield Inn looks like, why Jon also started Plungeworks as a standalone wellness spa, and what his message is for people who feel stuck or isolated in a growing city. We also hit Pensacola Beach parking, the need for a parking garage, why Pensacola used to be the hidden gem until social media blew the secret, and a food deep dive on Grand Marlin and Sidelines.
In this episode you will learn:
How Run Roast Refresh grew from 20 to 500 plus attendees in under a year
Why Jon built a sober social event in a beach town known for its nightlife
What Plungeworks offers and why cold plunges and infrared saunas are taking off in Pensacola
How transplants are using Run Roast Refresh to build real friendships after moving here
What the one year anniversary Halloween event at Fairfield Inn looks like
Why Pensacola still needs a parking garage on the beach
Jon’s message to anyone feeling stuck or isolated in a new city

Zam's Grand Opening ft. JD Cobb (ImageMakers)
🌐 Want to live where things like this happen? Visit yapaholicspodcast.com and let our local real estate team help you make Pensacola home.
An Australian restaurant chain with over 300 locations chose Pensacola, Florida as their first US location. Then they threw the biggest grand opening this city has ever seen.
JD Cobb of Imagemakers Media joins us to take us inside every single moment of the Zams launch from start to finish.
JD was on the ground for all of it. The Blue Angels beach takeover with three tents and a DJ at Casino Beach during the most chaotic weekend of the year. Sleeping in his car at midnight to secure a parking spot. Running ten miles before a full day of shooting. Getting lifted sixty feet in the air in a crane because FAA regulations would not allow a drone. And then a block party grand opening with world class DJ Vintage Culture, a stage that had no business being on Palafox Street, and nearly eleven thousand photos shot in a single night. We also talk about what Zams choosing Pensacola means for the future of the local business community and why the blueprint they created for launching in a new market is something every company coming into the 850 should pay attention to.
In this episode you will learn:
Why Zams chose Pensacola as their first US location and what their research revealed
How the entire Zams launch was executed by an all-local vendor team
What it was like shooting the Blue Angels beach takeover from inside the crowd
Why JD ended up in an eighty-foot crane to get shots a drone could not
How Zams created a buy one give one meal model that directly impacts food insecurity in Pensacola
What the Zams block party with Vintage Culture actually looked like from the inside
Why only two revisions were needed across nearly a thousand edited photos
