While the parable of the vineyard workers was about those who fail to give what they owe to God, this parable addresses the question of how we should be ready to receive God's grace.

After coming to Jerusalem and being hailed as King, Jesus challenges the authority of the leaders of the city through a parable that draws from the vineyard prophecy of Isaiah. As Jesus points out their unfaithful leadership, he is also challenging those to whom the Kingdom will soon be given as to whether they will be more faithful than those who have gone before.
