Soundtrack - 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
Dear listeners! We've missed you! We had to take a hiatus suddenly due to a family illness, but all is slowly getting back to normal. We're excited to be podding once again! Journey with us back to 1999... the place is Padua High School. The soundtrack is pretty great. The teenagers... have an interesting way of speaking. Have you ever: ...lit a cigarette using a bunsen burner? ...worn an empathy belly to feel the full weight of your decisions? ...eaten a live duck (everything but the beak and feet)? ...learned French for Alex Mack? ...unknowingly helped your guidance counselor write a dirty novel? We burn, we pine, we perish. We celebrate Heath Ledger and his musical/dance number, compare how this high school was similar and different from ours, and play "Two Degrees of Heath Ledger" to reveal which 10 Things actors we met in person! We get into the soundtrack, our favorite tracks, and our favorite songs that didn't make the official soundtrack, but still rock! Thanks for your excellent guidance. We'll let you get back to Reginald's quivering member. Soundtrack - Reality Bites (1994)
Hello…? You’ve reached the winter of our discontent. And we’d like to buy you all a coke. Just don’t steal any Snickers. Get yer shoes on, Steve Zahn! It's movie soundtrack March, and we're so excited to talk about one of our favorites - Reality Bites! We get into: our favorite songs from the film, both on and off the official soundtrack; our shared appreciation for the wit of Janeane Garofalo; the social issues facing recent college grads during the mid-90s and how frighteningly little society seemed to care; some of the verbiage in the movie that we don't care for; Juliana's experience seeing Squeeze in concert; how we wish Vickie was real because we really want to hang out with her; and Ethan Hawke's original song - and his other singing credits we discovered along the way! Grab a toothbrush, some toothpaste, a flannel for your face, and perhaps a nutrient-rich Big Gulp, and join us in this week's stroll down memory lane. And maybe afterward, watch some Melrose Place. It's a really good show. Favorite songs from this film: U2 - All I Want Is You World Party - When You Come Back To Me Crowded House - Locked Out Juliana Hatfield 3 - Spin The Bottle Me Phi Me - Revival Hey! That's My Bike - Add It Up (Violent Femmes cover) Ethan Hawke - I'm Nuthin' Alice Cooper - School's Out Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories - Stay (I Missed You) The Knack - My Sharona Squeeze - Tempted Peter Frampton - Baby, I Love Your Way Next week's soundtrack: 10 Things I Hate About You Originally recorded March 5, 2023

You oughta know!: Follow us on Instagram and Twitter: @yeoldeplaylist We love to hear from our listeners! Let us know whatcha whatcha whatcha want! We will be off next week due to "life stuff" but we'll be back the following week to kick off Movie Soundtrack March! Our first soundtrack... REALITY BITES! Playlist Vol. 1 - Love Songs
Welcome back! Valentine's Day is coming up soon, so we're taking a break from our usual format to discuss our favorite love songs of all time. We go through our extensive lists of favorites to figure out what we think makes a great love song. Is it a well-placed sax solo? A slightly raunchy vibe? A particularly amazing music video that stuck with us? Expect a decent amount of songs from the 80s, Barry White picks from Juliana, and songs from movies that we still can't get enough of. One thing's for sure: Adam Sandler came up way more than either of us expected. Make sure you come back next week to see what gems we pick for Volume 2: Breakup Songs. Thank you dear listeners for your continued listener-ship! We want to grow old with you. Follow us on Instagram and Twitter: @yeoldeplaylist Originally recorded February 4, 2023

Good Charlotte (2000)
On the east coast we ride! Quite literally. Everything's gonna be all right now! On this episode, we get into Good Charlotte's self-titled album from 2000. Discussion includes: the first time we saw Good Charlotte live (opening for MxPx); running into Benji after the show and the items he signed for us; the two songs on the album Meghan never listened to but Juliana did; we have fun in the Segment Zone with "Covers" - we have a few from The Beatles, The Beastie Boys, Billy Idol, Blur, Cheap Trick, and The Police that we think GC could pull off; in "Period Piece" Juliana finds a spot for the Madden brothers in Jane Austen novels, while Meghan can only think about notable twins in literature; and in our "Muppets" segment we determine their true muppet selves; and we wrap up with a few lyrics we think need an update. Our favorite tracks from the album: Waldorf Worldwide; Seasons; East Coast Anthem; I Don't Wanna Stop; Complicated; Walk By We'll be doing a different format the next two shows in honor of Valentine's Day. We'll be making playlists of our all-time favorite love songs, and our favorite breakup songs. This will take two episodes, so be sure to set aside enough tiny conversation hearts to nosh on, and join us on this journey! Speaking of Valentine's Day, we LOVE our listeners! You can follow the show on Twitter and Insta @yeoldeplaylist. If you're not too busy listening to early 2000s music, please take a moment to rate/review the show so we know what you want more of! MxPx - The Ever Passing Moment (2000)
Welcome back! This week, we piece together our misplaced memories of the time we saw MxPx in 2001 instead of studying for finals, and we get into their 2000 album, The Ever Passing Moment. Sorry this ep is a day late - don't hate us forever, we're better late than never! Discussion includes: our memories of the last days of spring semester capped off by a great show from MxPx, Good Charlotte, and Ultimate Fakebook; the perfectly amazing cover song they opened with; "absolutely no moshing" = please mosh; in our "Covers" segment, we come up with some good ones from The Beatles, The Police, The Cure, and Billy Idol; and yet more delightfully ridiculous fun in our "Period Piece" and "Muppet" segments! And if you can't get enough Mike Herrera, don't worry - he's also in Goldfinger! And hosts "The Mike Herrera Podcast"! Our favorites from the album: Buildings Tumble; Misplaced Memories; My Life Story; One Step Closer to Life; Answer in the Question; Prove It to the World Make sure to come back next week when we discuss Good Charlotte's self-titled album and our experience seeing them open for MxPx! Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991)
If You Have To Ask, we had a blast going back to 1991 with our favorite Funky Monks! Discussion includes: the bygone days of getting 12 albums for 1 penny; the Iggy Pop picture we used to confuse with Anthony Kiedis; thinking of your city as a family member; what do you call RHCP fans (we like "Funky Monks"); we gush over bass lines and the genius of Flea; and we lament our lack of RHCP concert-going experience and crave some fan stories! We conclude that RHCP are masters of bouncing around musical genres and we hope they're around for a long time. Our favorites from the album: Under the Bridge; Give It Away; Breaking the Girl; The Greeting Song; Funky Monks; The Righteous and the Wicked Follow us on Instagram and Twitter: @yeoldeplaylist Originally recorded January 7, 2023

Weezer - Blue Album (1994)
The world has turned and left us here to discuss Weezer's 1994 album, better known as the Blue Album. Discussion includes: muppets - we just can't stop with the muppets; the bizarre situation that caused Meghan to get into Weezer; the life's-so-rad conversation in "Undone (The Sweater Song)"; we reminisce about how everyone lost their minds over the "Buddy Holly" video (we certainly did!); the relaxed Freaks-and-Geeks-y vibe of "In The Garage"; if we could work with any celebrity we want it to be a muppet; Juliana reminds us that it was Weezer that made being nerdy cool; and recurring "Covers" and "Period Piece" segments, and why not a new one about muppets? Join us again next week for more Ye Olde Muppets. Our favorites from this album: Undone (The Sweater Song), Say It Ain't So, The World Has Turned and Left Me Here, In The Garage, Holiday, My Name Is Jonas Follow the show on Instagram and the bird: @yeoldeplaylist Originally recorded December 17, 2022

Foo Fighters (1995)
Foo Fighters are pretty, Foo Fighters are good. We are x-static to be covering FF's 1995 debut album this week! Discussion includes: we think Dave Grohl is the coolest, and even cooler because he played all the instruments on the recording of this album; we deep-dive into some of these lyrics, mainly because Meghan had 50% of the lyrics from this album wrong; the classic songs we want to hear FF cover; their 1999 tour with Red Hot Chili Peppers; Static-X and beard braids; we recall the death of an old friend (cargo pants); is Paul McCartney responsible for the origins of the screamo sub-genre; and there's some David Letterman talk, naturally. Sublime (1996)
Do all the people in the dance agree that we're well qualified to represent the LBC? Probably not, but we do love to dance to the rhythm, it gets harder. We're back after a much-needed Thanksgiving break to discuss Sublime's 1996 self-titled album. Discussion includes: how this album gives us "beachy" vibes; that awkward moment when "Caress Me Down" comes on the radio while you're in the car with your parents; the message in "April 29, 1992" that is probably even more relevant today; what Bradley Nowell would be writing about if he were still alive today; if you love your Dalmatian, set it free... if it comes back, it was meant to be; and Edith Bunker stops by at the end of the show to throw in her two cents - which was a lot of money back in her day! Our favorites from the album: April 29, 1992; What I Got (both versions); Garden Grove; Doin' Time; Caress Me Down Follow us on Instagram and "the bird": @yeoldeplaylist Originally recorded Nov 28, 2022

About a month ago, we recorded a lovely episode about Blink's 1999 album "Enema of the State" only to witness the band going back to its original line-up before we released it. If there's anything we at Ye Olde Playlist love more than talking about our favorite bands, it's talking about them a second time. Saves The Day - Through Being Cool (1999)
Welcome to the first episode of Ye Olde Playlist! Join your hosts, Juliana and Meghan, as we travel back in time and re-listen to some of our favorite (and even not-so-favorite) music from our college days -- over 20 years ago! In this episode, we reminisce about the Saves The Day album "Through Being Cool", a "cozy" album that still holds a special place in our hearts. Included in our discussion: is it ok to shorten Saves The Day to STD?; how Juliana has maintained an impeccable cd collection, while Meghan sold 99% of hers and now has to rely on the internet for everything; the bygone era of cd binders; Through Being Cool's very descriptive lyrics; the time we unexpectedly saw STD lead singer Chris Conley perform with Alkaline Trio; mix cds we made for each other; how Juliana is a lyrics person and Meghan is an instrument person; the Beatles' song that Meghan loved for years until she finally paid attention to the lyrics and was horrified; and how you need to be at least 21 years old to buy whipped cream.
