He draws himself a bath
Welcome to episode 9 of YOU DON'T KNOW. We are back after a long break with a new episode! A recording of an essay written by David in response to the METODE project’s second callout, ‘Being, Bathing and Beyond’. The essay takes place in the bath, and forms a meditation on the themes of grief, memory and portraiture, and how our experiences of bathing tie in. You can read more about METODE here (https://metode.r-o-m.no/en/about), and you can read David’s essay from volume two here. You can find our new boxing fanzine, The Spit Bucket here. Sorry for the Mistakes
Welcome to episode 8 of You Don't Know. This episode features a collaborative story, written in three voices, by Lizzy and David. It (irregularly) follows two people who feel that they are moving in and out of an alternate place, and their responses through differing mental lenses to a landscape and each other. For the first time in the series we have invited another person to read alongside us. We are delighted to welcome Vanessa Onwuemezi onto the podcast and to introduce her to anyone that doesn't already know her. The episode is accompanied by a hand written and typed letter, which is available to buy from our website for £6.00 +p&p. A full episode transcript can be downloaded here. 10% of all web shop sales will be donated to the Eat or Heat Foodbank (http://eatorheat.org/) in Walthamstow. Find Lizzy on Twitter here. Stepping Out
Welcome to episode 6 of YOU DON'T KNOW. This episode is based on a long walk which Lizzy and David took from the former site of High Beech psychiatric hospital in Epping Forest. Using the poet John Clare’s residence at High Beech as a starting point, they walk and talk about their own thoughts and feelings around what walking means to them. The episode features field recordings made during the walk interwoven with the poem which Lizzy wrote in response to the walk. This episode is accompanied by a handmade concertina book, featuring a typewritten poem based on the walk, which can be bought in our shop. (https://www.youdontknow.uk/shop/p/stepping) A full episode transcript can be downloaded here. picking at the carrion
Welcome to episode 2 of YOU DON'T KNOW. This episode is an audio response to a project in which Lizzy created text responses to 10 miniature sculptures made by David, using lines from his poetry collection 'Contained' printed onto acetate. The project represents the back-and-forth non-conversation between two minds tangled in looping thoughts. This is mirrored in the sound, comprised of rhythmic spooling, repetition and pulsating loops. If it's possible for you to do so we recommend following the episode transcript which contains the images that the texts were written in response to. This episode is accompanied by a hand-bound 'art book' available from our web shop along with a more affordable paperback version. The recording is followed by a discussion between series producers Lizzy and David Turner about how the collaboration on this episode worked. The first two 'knots' from this series first appeared in the anthology PROTOTYPE 2. A full episode transcript can be downloaded here. Find Lizzy on Twitter here (https://twitter.com/LizzyTurnerPoet). More audio from David here. As mentioned in the episode here are links to where we bought the materials for the art books: Atlantis Art Materials (https://www.atlantisart.co.uk/) Ray Stitch Haberdashery (https://www.raystitch.co.uk/) London Centre for Book Arts (https://londonbookarts.org/) Shepherd's Book Binding Supplies (https://store.bookbinding.co.uk/store/) The prints for the art books were printed by Ludo Press.
