[…] Jaundice really just means that you look yellow. So it's a clinical finding, and the yellowness is caused by a pigment called Billy Ruben. We will only see visible jaundice to the eye once your level gets above a certain amount. So, Fred, to get visibly jaundice in your skin, your level needs to be 70 to 100 in babies, but you can see some subtle changes in the eyes or sclerolicturists at about 30 to 40 micromole per liter. Okay, so that's what jaundice is. It's this yellow pigment caused by Billy Ruben that deposits in their skin on the eyes, but where does the Billy Ruben come from miles? So Billy Ruben in itself is not a toxic thing in most people, and it's something that is just part of normal red blood cell processing. […]
