GifuTalk — a voice for the quiet chapters of life
GifuTalk listens with intention, and speaks with care.
We walk through the real streets of Meinong, where lives stretch long, and some chapters—too quiet, too slow—go unnoticed.
As the years grow generous, many of us will eventually arrive at what some call the third life.
It’s a season often misunderstood— as if the world is winding down.
This is where things truly begin: new learnings, rediscovered companionship, a softer kind of courage— the one it takes to sit with yourself and stay.
This episode brings us to Longdu. A town most travelers pass through on their way to somewhere else— a shortcut to the yellow butterflies, a quiet blur on the road between Meinong and Liugui.
But Longdu stays. It holds the rhythm of a slower time. The young leave early. The elders remain— first alone in their homes, then, slowly, gathering in warm rooms, sharing tea, stories, breath.
Our guest today is Liu Lanying— a woman who has spent years planting care in Longdu’s soil.
She doesn’t talk about elder centers like institutions. She speaks of them as places that remembered. Places that know how to bring people together, how to tend to loneliness, how to make someone feel seen— right where they’ve always called home.
She tells us about five quiet treasures of the third life: a partner beside you, a roof above, a modest savings, a faithful friend, a body that still carries you gently. These aren’t luxuries. They’re earned slowly and kept with tenderness. The third life doesn’t ask for much. Sometimes, just a shared table. A class that makes you smile. A space where someone says your name like they remember it. And sometimes, that’s all it is— a rainy corner of the neighborhood where someone remembers you wore rain boots that day.
We hope this episode finds you. Maybe you’ll think of someone. Maybe you’ll think of the "you" you haven’t met yet. If you’re stepping into the third life— or walking beside someone who is— this story is yours.
Not all voices are loud. Some simply sit beside you when the world gets quiet, and stay awhile, breathing with you in time.
