The A–Z of Healing: 26 Ways Your Story Can Change Your Health with Megan Timmins

In this powerful conversation, Julie Ann and guest co-creator Megan announce their new collaborative book project: The A to Z of Healing—a collection of real-life stories from people who chose a different path with their health. Megan brings 20 years of experience as a nurse inside the Western medical system, and shares how her own arthritis diagnosis during the pandemic became a turning point. Faced with the offer of methotrexate (a chemo-adjacent drug that wipes out the immune system), she drew a hard line and said, “No—that’s not an option.” That decision led her to naturopathic support, supplements, brain retraining, and a completely different relationship with her body. Julie Ann shares how she was told she would never walk without radical spinal surgery—removing vertebrae and inserting rods—and how one Feldenkrais session opened a completely new healing trajectory. From there, she reframed what’s possible when we lean into stories, not just statistics. Together, they explore healing modalities like Feldenkrais, Reiki, plant medicine, hypnosis, timeline therapy, nutrition, movement, and the power of imagination—and why informed choice must mean more than a single pill or protocol. This episode is also a call for contributors: if you have healed (or are actively healing) through a “non-standard” approach, they want to hear your story for The A to Z of Healing collaborative book. In This Episode, You’ll Hear About How the A–Z of Healing collaborative book was born and why it may become multiple volumes Megan’s journey from ICU nurse to integrative healing advocate after saying no to methotrexate Julie Ann’s scoliosis/spine story and how Feldenkrais helped her avoid major surgery Real-life examples of people healing with modalities like Reiki, hypnosis, plant medicine, and timeline therapy Why nutrition, movement, and brain health are foundational “fuels” for the body The story of their friend with MS who challenged her prognosis through intense strength training How imagination and a “perfect day” visualization helped a patient go from lying flat to sitting up after weeks A heartfelt invitation for listeners to share their own healing stories and join the book project 6 Key Takeaways Stories expand what we think is possible: Hearing real people’s healing journeys—like Julie Ann avoiding spinal surgery or Megan navigating arthritis without chemo-adjacent drugs—opens portals in our minds: if they did it, maybe I can too. “That’s not an option” is a powerful turning point: Both Julie Ann and Megan reached a moment where the proposed medical solution felt impossible for their lives. Saying “no” became the doorway to exploring other modalities and reclaiming agency over their bodies. Healing is bigger than one system or one pill: This is not an anti–Western medicine conversation; it’s a pro-full-picture conversation. Surgery, pharmaceuticals, and hospitals can save lives, and they are not the only tools available for healing. Your body is a high-performance vehicle—fuel and use it accordingly: Anti-inflammatory foods, supplements like turmeric and ginger, regular movement, and brain engagement (not just zoning out in front of a screen) all signal to the body that it’s worth maintaining at a high level. The brain is a healing partner, not just a bystander: From a patient who could suddenly sit up after visualizing her perfect day, to people refusing to be defined by their diagnosis, this episode underscores how belief, imagination, and intention influence the body’s healing trajectory. The A–Z of Healing is a collaborative map, not a prescription: The upcoming book will feature only modalities that Megan and Julie Ann (or their...

Collaborative Books: When Many Stories Become One Voice

In this solo episode of Your Story is Your Portal, Julie Ann explores the power and purpose behind collaborative books—projects where multiple authors unite around a shared theme to create a single, powerful collection of human experience. From The Women of Worth and Family Tree series in Canada to the upcoming Sayulita Soul Writers projects in Mexico, Julie Ann shares inspiring examples of how these “books of many voices” become living communities—raising funds for causes, amplifying diverse perspectives, and sparking individual transformation. She explains how collaborative anthologies offer an accessible and heart-centered entry point for emerging authors, often becoming the catalyst for their own solo books. This episode celebrates the magic that happens when stories intertwine—how co-creation deepens connection, accelerates healing, and brings shared purpose to life through the written word. Key Takeaways 1. Collaboration Creates Connection: A shared book transforms storytelling into a communal act—every voice amplifying the message of the whole. 2. Diversity Deepens Relatability: When readers hear many perspectives, they’re more likely to find a story that resonates with their own journey. 3. Books Can Build Community Impact: Anthologies like Women of Worth show how collective storytelling can also serve as a force for fundraising and social change. 4. The Process Is Transformational: Writing alongside others—meeting weekly, sharing progress, witnessing each other’s vulnerability—creates a unique alchemy of growth. 5. Collaborative Books Inspire Solo Authors: Many first-time contributors gain the confidence and clarity to write their own full-length books after being part of a group project. 6. Sayulita Soul Writers Is the Next Chapter: Julie Ann invites new voices to join the Sayulita Soul Writers book series, celebrating the stories of locals, expats, and travelers who make this seaside town a hub of creative consciousness. Soul Mapping: Tracing the Stories That Shape Who You Are

In this solo episode, Julie Ann invites you on a journey of soul mapping—a transformative process she has developed over 15 years of guiding authors and visionaries to uncover the deeper meaning behind their life stories. Through reflective storytelling and personal examples from her seven “lifetimes” and travels around the world, Julie Ann explores how our environments, beliefs, and life experiences shape who we become. She explains how to use simple tools—like colored pens and large sheets of paper—to access the wisdom of your soul, not just your mind. Whether you’re beginning a memoir or seeking clarity on your life’s purpose, this episode offers a soulful practice for reconnecting with your truth and transforming your story into a portal of purpose. Key Takeaways Soul Mapping is more than reflection—it’s reclamation: It’s a process of revisiting your life events not just to remember them, but to reclaim how they shaped your values, beliefs, and soul essence. Our beliefs begin as borrowed: As children, we inherit beliefs from family, culture, and environment. True awakening happens when we explore which ones are ours and which ones are inherited. Travel is the fastest teacher of perspective: Stepping outside your original environment allows you to form your own value system and see how others live, love, and define meaning. The tools are simple—but sacred: Large white paper, colorful pens, and quiet time create space for both sides of your brain to collaborate—the logical mind and the intuitive soul. Your emotions are your compass: Soul mapping invites you to ask: How did this event make me feel?—so you can discern what experiences truly shaped your inner truth. Your story is your portal: Each mapped experience becomes a doorway to your purpose. When you connect the dots, you reveal the map your soul has been quietly drawing all along. Rethinking “Bestseller”: Why Impact Beats Validation

In this solo episode, Julie Ann unpacks the industry’s obsession with the “New York Times Bestseller” label and invites authors to re-center on purpose, impact, and discoverability. She explains how bestseller status became an ego-driven proxy for success, contrasts that with a service-driven definition of success, and shares practical guidance on titling, subtitling, and launching so your book is actually found by the people it’s meant to help. You’ll also hear a powerful story from one of Julie Ann’s early authors—and a reminder that changing even one life is real success. Friendly note: Any health-related anecdotes shared are personal perspectives. What We Cover The difference between validation-seeking and service-driven publishing How lists like the NYT are curated (not pure volume-based) and why chasing them can distort your choices Why Amazon category strategy and searchability matter for discoverability Titling/subtitling that clearly signals your promise to the reader A packaging mindset: cover, subtitle, back cover copy, categories, and keywords as “the window in the box” A values reset: define success by the lives your book changes 6 Key Takeaways Impact > Labels: Real author success is measured by reader transformation, not a status tag. NYT ≠ Pure Sales: Lists like the New York Times are curated and selective; they’re not a simple scoreboard of total copies sold. Be Findable: Optimize your title, subtitle, description, and categories with the exact terms your ideal reader would search. Amazon Strategy Matters: Hitting relevant Amazon categories (even briefly) boosts visibility so the right readers—and media—can find you. Package the Promise: Treat your cover, subtitle, and back cover like packaging that clearly shows “what’s inside” and who it’s for. Choose Yourself: Don’t contort your voice to win contests or gatekeepers; publish authentically and let your story be medicine for you and your readers Memorable Story Julie Ann recalls publishing Dr. Jerry Fewster’s Don’t Let Your Kids Be Normal. His metric for success? If even one parent says the book changed how they’ll raise their child, that ripple is success. Practical Prompts for Authors Who exactly am I helping with this book? What would my ideal reader type into Google/Amazon on the hardest day of their journey? Do my title and subtitle use those words clearly? Which three Amazon categories best match my reader’s search path? Does my back cover copy state the problem, promise, and path? When Your Unconscious Writes the Script: How Unconscious Stories Direct Your Destiny

When life feels “too much,” is it chaos—or your unconscious trying to get your attention? In this intimate solo episode, Julie Ann shares a raw, real-time season of upheaval—relationship rupture, a retreat venue destroyed by a storm, tech meltdowns—and the wild synchronicity that placed her face-to-face with Daniel at the exact moment she needed support. Using the “Matrix” metaphor, she explores how unconscious stories quietly direct our choices, relationships, money patterns, and even our “chance” encounters. You’ll learn why awareness is the first key to stop repeating pain-loops and how reflective writing becomes a portal back to purpose. Julie Ann also unveils a new jungle-kissed writers’ retreat space in Sayulita—six soulful casitas, ocean views, and a quiet that invites your story to speak. If you’ve been sensing it’s time to meet the part of you writing from the shadows, this episode is your nudge: your unconscious is directing the movie… until you pick up the pen. What You'll Hear: Your unconscious is the director. Conscious goals matter—but background stories cue the scenes. Synchronicity isn’t random. “Chance” meetings often mirror what your deeper story is trying to resolve. Patterns point to purpose. Recurring relationship/money/career loops reveal lesson-lines you’re meant to learn. Awareness breaks the spell. Naming the pattern is step one to changing the script. Write to rewire. Reflective writing externalizes the story, creates choice, and opens the portal to soul purpose. Environment matters. Retreat space, silence, and nature amplify remembrance, clarity, and creative flow. ---- New Retreat Venue (Sayulita): 6 private Mexican casitas set in tropical gardens, ocean-view group space, jungle walk to a secluded beach. First Retreat Dates: November 8 (5 weeks away from recording). Accommodation: Private casitas; sharing option from $1497 USD Join “Sayulita Soul Writers”: Explore your soul stories—whether for your own healing, a book chapter, or your full manuscript. Episode themes: unconscious programming, synchronicity, pattern recognition, writing as medicine, destiny vs. choice. Ready to explore your stories and stop repeating old loops? The Whisper of Your Soul: Slowing Down to Hear Your True Story

In this episode of Your Story is Your Portal, Julie Ann reflects on the power of stillness, environment, and story as pathways to discovering your soul’s true purpose. Sharing stories of women on the move, lessons from nature in Mexico, and her own experiences of grief and healing, she explores why creating quiet time is not a luxury but a necessity. This is an invitation to stop running, step away from chaos, and listen to the whispers of your soul — because every life event, even the painful ones, is a portal leading you toward your higher calling. 6 Key Takeaways: Quiet Time is Essential: In our busy, multitasking lives, the soul can’t be heard without intentional stillness. Creating space for reflection opens the doorway to clarity. Your Environment Shapes Your Soul Voice: Changing your environment — whether walking on a beach, listening to the jungle, or journaling in stillness — makes it possible to hear the whispers of your soul. Life is Not Random: Every experience, including grief and challenges, carries wisdom. They are portals guiding you toward your soul purpose. From Chaos to Compass: Without slowing down, we repeat cycles and remain stuck. Retreats, ritual, and conscious pauses become compasses pointing you to your “true north.” Your Story Holds Your Wisdom: Life lessons, both joyful and painful, are not meant to be hidden — they are tools to empower others. Writing, storytelling, or retreats help reveal those patterns. Stop Waiting, Start Listening: Procrastination keeps you from your soul path. The whispers of your soul grow louder until you finally act. Your story is waiting to become your portal. Manifestation, Clarity & Infinite Possibilities: Why Your Soul is Calling You to Retreat

In this powerful solo episode of Your Story is Your Portal, Julie Ann explores the mystery and paradox of manifesting. Do we need absolute clarity to bring our dreams to life—or is the real magic in surrendering to infinite possibilities? Julie Ann shares her deeply personal journey of manifesting a retreat center in Puerto Vallarta—born from grief, clarity, and surrender—and contrasts it with the expansive way she has lived most of her life: open to whatever the universe had in store. This episode leads you straight to the heart of why stepping away from your daily environment is essential. When you immerse yourself in the wild beauty of Mexico—fire ceremonies, ocean breezes, jungle stillness—you begin to access either the clarity or the surrender your soul is calling for. And that’s exactly what the Soul Compass Retreat in Sayulita, Mexico offers: a space to uncover your true north, stop procrastinating, and finally listen to your soul’s calling. If you’ve been waiting for a sign, this is it. 🔑 6 Key Takeaways: Clarity is power – Manifestation requires absolute clarity, focus, and embodiment of your vision. Surrender is magic – Sometimes the deepest manifestation comes from letting go and allowing the universe to reveal infinite possibilities. Environment shapes clarity – You cannot gain true clarity while stuck in your daily routine—you need to step out of your comfort zone. Manifestation is embodied living – Living “as if” (moving into the dream before it’s real) collapses possibilities into reality. The soul speaks in the second half of life – After years of proving ourselves, our soul begins to whisper its true calling—if we pause long enough to listen. Retreat is the portal – A Soul Compass Retreat offers both the clarity of manifestation and the surrender to possibility—helping you uncover your life purpose in a supportive, transformational environment. 👉 Ready to answer your soul’s call? Why Your Story Holds the Map to Your Soul Compass

In this heartfelt episode of Your Story is Your Portal, Julie Ann welcomes back Jennifer Nagel—therapist, author, and co-creator of the Soul Compass Retreats. Together, they explore how our life stories are not random, but instead guiding compasses pointing us toward soul alignment and purpose. Jennifer shares her personal journey of navigating her husband’s cancer diagnosis, her own MS diagnosis, and how these pivotal experiences became beacons for resilience, grace, and transformation. Julie Ann opens up about her dyslexia and how revealing hidden stories can unlock new levels of freedom and connection. They discuss why changing environments (like retreats in nature) helps us access deeper truths, how storytelling is medicine for the soul, and why vulnerability—not surface narratives—creates the real magic. This conversation lays the foundation for the transformational experiences at the upcoming Soul Compass Retreats in Sayulita, Mexico, where story becomes the portal to purpose. Key Takeaways Your story is your compass—every experience, even the painful ones, is guiding you toward your soul’s true north. Trauma holds medicine—by safely exploring our past, we uncover resilience and wisdom we didn’t know we carried. The body remembers—our stories live in our cells; somatic work helps release what’s stuck and amplify joy and strength. Environment matters—stepping into nature and sacred space opens new possibilities for self-discovery. Vulnerability is power—surface stories don’t serve; true healing comes from courageously sharing our real story. Retreats create portals—safe containers and community amplify breakthroughs, opening doorways to life purpose. The Road Beyond Fear: How Travel Becomes a Portal to Wisdom with Ellen Whiteside

What happens when you step outside of fear — and into the unknown? In this powerful and soul-stirring episode, Julie Ann is joined by Ellen Whiteside, a courageous storyteller whose journey across Europe — mostly by hitchhiking — became an unexpected path to healing, expansion, and personal sovereignty. Ellen shares how her decision to travel alone as a woman, accepting rides from strangers and navigating foreign lands, helped her overcome depression and reconnect with joy. She speaks about the sacredness of spontaneous encounters and how every conversation with a stranger held a gift of perspective, wisdom, and belonging. Julie Ann and Ellen explore the deeper truth behind fear — how we’re taught to fear the unknown, yet it's in the unknown where we meet our soul. They reflect on their shared experiences traveling solo as women, guided not by fear but by intuition, openness, and trust in their inner knowing. This episode is an invitation to reimagine courage — not as force or fearlessness, but as presence, perception, and a willingness to be changed by what we meet on the road. Whether you've traveled the world or never left your hometown, this conversation will stir something in you — a remembrance of the freedom that comes when you trust your story to guide you home. ✨ A must-listen for seekers, soul-led travelers, and those ready to reclaim their story beyond fear. What You’ll Hear: - Every journey is a story unfolding. When we step into the unknown, we invite life to co-author our story. Travel becomes the blank page where truth writes itself through experience, encounter, and surprise. - Your beliefs aren’t truly yours until you leave home. It’s only by seeing through the eyes of another culture that we begin to question what we've inherited — and choose, consciously, what we want to carry forward. - Conversations with strangers carry soul medicine. Ellen reminded us that the most powerful wisdom doesn’t always come from books or teachers — it comes from chance encounters, shared stories, and being willing to listen without judgment. - Intuition is your internal compass. For women traveling alone, fear is often the narrative — but intuition is the true guide. When you trust your inner knowing, the world responds with alignment, insight, and protection. - Fear limits your story — curiosity expands it. Fear keeps us in familiar loops. But curiosity opens new timelines, new teachings, and new aspects of self we didn’t know existed. Your story begins where fear ends. - Your life story is shaped by the cultures you witness. The more we travel, the more we remember that there are infinite ways to live, love, worship, speak, and serve. This mosaic of perspectives refines our values — and from that place, purpose emerges. Featured Guest: Ellen Whiteside Ellen Whiteside owns Sacred Grove Retreat Center She also hosts a radio show, Mindset & Miracles on WDRBmedia.com (http://wdrbmedia.com/) and is a DreamBuilder Coach.
