AI & Us | Season 9 | Our Artificial Futures

This episode is a YouthForum and open circle discussion conducted by ListenUp youth team as part of our Season 9, which centers around AI and the changes that are occurring because of the advancement of artificial intelligence. During this episode we sit together not just as a team but as a collective to address and reflect on our own impacts and resolutions when it comes to how we use AI in our daily lives as creative media creators and producers, but also as young adults. We discuss the need to participate in AI advances as both a pro and a con when it comes to career advancement for some of us. Join us as we try to find our own middle ground with artificial intelligence and our impact. Note: about 6 months after this, Hiwi and Jordan went to the Take Back Tech conference in Atlanta Georgia, which both complicated and validated the conversation we had in this episode.

Two Mid-Production Discussions of the Season 8 Theme "Words Matter" | Season 8 | Summer Media Intensive 2025

In early July our Summer Media Intensive cohort members sat down with SMI facilitators (Youth Media Collective members) for two separate YouthForum-style conversations about the season we were working on, and the episodes they would all have done by the end of the summer. This was a training on how to use the podcast studio we share with our friends the St Paul Neighborhood Network, and on how we run YouthForums at Listen Up. When we do these trainings we always say "if it's content worth sharing, we can share it! If we decide not to, it was still a good conversation." This time folks thought it was worth sharing! Whether you've already listened to the whole season or not, tune in to hear cohort members and our youth facilitators were thinking about the importance of words and language while they were in the midst of pre-production!

Published 11 Aug 2023 · Transcript excerpt

[…] You know, low earth has over 500 children in the summertime on our property with half of them being under the age of 10. You know, our urban, our little farm, our youth farm is right in the back, right by the rough people site. And we've had kids that work our farm because we have a working farm for our five, five -year -olds on up to teach them how to be with mother earth and grow vegetables and grow our sacred medicines. And we've had a couple of our kids have asthma attacks so bad that they've had to be hospitalized. And it's like the media got a whole of the urban farm thing with the city pushed and created a picture of and didn't hear the rest of what we were saying. […]
