两百多年前，英国一个小村里，有一位瞎眼的牧师，名叫华福（William W. Walford, 1772-1850）。他虽然失去了视力，但却拥有一个坚强的意志，又能“过目不忘”，引用圣经的时候几乎字字句句都没有错误。当时的人从他的讲道中看出来他是一个“真正以心来认识整本圣经”的人。他的手也不停地做些小玩意来经营一个小店。他常常坐在壁炉前，一边做活，一边心中作诗，或预备他的主日讲章。
