Wie sie danach zurückfinden in ein neues, ein anderes Leben, das beschreibt Astrid Töpfner sehr eindringlich und vermittelt ganz nebenbei ein Stück Geschichte, das bis heute außerhalb des Kreises der unmittelbar Betroffenen weitgehend unbekannt geblieben ist. Andrea Instone schreibt seit 2017 historische Romane, die zum größten Teil in Bonn spielen. Zwanziger Jahre, die Zeit zwischen den Weltkriegen, aber auch Regency und Fin de Siècle sind ihre Epochen, durch die sie allerdings in der Regel keine Prinzessinnen oder Lords begleitet, sondern einfache Mädchen und junge Frauen, die sich durchs Leben schlagen - heiter und unterhaltsam, aber nie oberflächlich und immer mit viel Wissen über die Menschen und ihre Geschichten. Maria Daelen, Jahrgang 1903, lässt sich schwer in einem Satz beschreiben. Sie war Tochter aus gutem Haus, studierte Medizin und wurde Ärztin, als das noch nicht viele Frauen taten, war Partnerin und Freundin bekannter Persönlichkeiten und oft als einzige Frau in der Gesundheitspolitik während der Nachkriegszeit aktiv. Ein Leben, wie es so nur im 20. Jahrhundert möglich war.
