5 Virtues of a Devoted Student

The Yoga Sutras describe two types of people on the path to enlightenment: those born with spiritual capabilities and those who need structured practice. For the latter, the path to Yoga is shaped by five essential virtues.

Shraddha (Faith): Trust in the universe’s support, believing everything needed for growth is already within.

Vidya (Courage): Inner strength to face challenges and persevere through life’s obstacles with boldness.

Smirti (Remembrance): The ability to recall vital practices and stay aligned with your deeper purpose.

Samadhi (Absorption): Complete awareness and absorption in your goal, cultivating stillness and focus.

Prajna (Light of Intelligence): The illumination of consciousness, revealing wisdom through intuitive understanding.

These virtues...faith, courage, memory, focus, and wisdom... are essential for success in Yoga, helping practitioners overcome obstacles and achieve spiritual growth and self-realisation.

To read more and to practice with Zephyr Wildman, click here.

To support Zephyr Yoga Podcast, donate here.

Hosted on Acast. Fundamentals to Practice

Yoga is an inquiry into the nature of the mind, body, and consciousness. It provides a ritual that fosters belonging, meaning, and purpose, creating a sense of community and support. Through asana, yoga helps focus the mind on the breath, entering a state of stillness and awareness. A balanced practice is grounded in ethics and personal discipline, guided by the 8 Limbs of Yoga, particularly the Yamas (ethical guidelines) and Niyamas (observances). Key principles include non-violence (Ahimsa), truthfulness (Satya), and self-study (Svadhyaya).

Asana practice emphasises steadiness (Sthira) and ease (Sukham), with focus on breath, sensation, and internal light (prana). This leads to overcoming duality and attaining a state of yoga. Obstacles such as dullness and self-doubt arise, but cultivating awareness, friendliness, joy, and compassion can help overcome them. Using tools like R.A.I.N. (Recognise, Allow, Investigate, Nurture), we learn to self-regulate and move toward lasting fulfilment and freedom from suffering.

To read more and to practice with Zephyr Wildman, click here.

To support Zephyr Yoga Podcast, donate here.

Hosted on Acast. Pranayama – 5 Prana Vayus 5 Stages of Prana

In today's class, we explore the five prana vayus and the five stages of prana to deepen our practice. The prana vayus are directional flows of energy in the body that guide our breath during asana, pranayama, and meditation:

Prana Vayu: Inward energy flow, linked to inhalation and the chest.

Apana Vayu: Downward energy flow, associated with elimination and grounding.

Samana Vayu: Consolidating energy, connected to digestion and assimilation.

Vyana Vayu: Distributes energy, ensuring circulation and coordination.

Udana Vayu: Upward flow, related to growth, expression, and insight.

The Five Stages of Prana (Activation, Churn, Consolidate, Ignite, Direct) guide us to harness and direct energy for healing and transformation.

By focusing on breath, asanas, and intention, we refine our practice and awareness, overcoming obstacles and cultivating inner contentment. Attention and intention help us direct prana toward serenity, joy, and self-realisation, essential for deep transformation and freedom from suffering.

To read more and to practice with Zephyr Wildman, click here.

To support Zephyr Yoga Podcast, donate here.

Hosted on Acast.
