每次搭高鐵到台中，必須先經過烏日，其實早在清代，湖日港一帶就因米糧轉運形成「半路店」；到了日本時代，鐵路取代水運，碾米、製糖產業興起，也留下聚奎居這座仕紳宅邸。
而成功嶺在成為新訓中心以前，更是擁有高爾夫球場、競馬場與青年道場的娛樂城。這集從交通、產業與建築出發，看一座兩百多年來始終讓旅人「經過」的城市，如何一次次改變自己的模樣。
