So you’re saying anything can be a zine?
We decided to record an “intro to zines” episode, geared towards people who have never made a zine before or are looking to try a new zine form.
There’s no prompt new prompt this episode, but we hope some of the zines we discuss will inspire you to make something of your own! We also share an incredible zine made by one of our listeners, based on the prompt “Make your own monster.”

Make Your Own Monster with Kayla Shaggy
When the world thinks you’re a monster - maybe being a monster is actually something good?
After a month off, we’re excited to share our interview with Kayla Shaggy, a Navajo zinester and comic creator. Kayla has been self-publishing zines and comics since 2016. You’ll hear us chat with her about lesbian vampires, anti-colonialist kaiju, and big floofy dogs.
This episode’s prompt is “Make your own monster.”
Alternatively, make a zine featuring yourself as a monster…

Phoenix Zine Fest, a Love Letter to Community
Every year, zinesters in Phoenix hold a celebration of zines called Phoenix Zine Fest. The event, hosted by Wasted Ink Zine Distro, brings together zinesters from across the US.
Instead of an interview with just one zinester, in this episode we’ll be speaking to a whole lot of people. We’ll bring you right along into the fest, and then we’ll share a few of the zines we picked up that we really enjoyed.
This episode’s prompt is: “Make a love letter to your community.”

Make Bad Art with Theo Quest
