En 1934, las tortilleras de Guadalajara demandaron a sus empleadores y transformaron sus exigencias en un contrato colectivo, un hito que hoy se resguarda en el Archivo General del Estado de Jalisco.El sindicato que formaron logró garantizar descansos de maternidad y periodos de lactancia. A través del Círculo Feminista de Occidente, estas trabajadoras aprendieron a leer y escribir para poder firmar sus propias demandas.
