<p style="color:#333333;font-weight:normal;font-size:16px;line-height:30px;font-family:Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;hyphens:auto;text-align:justify;" data-flag="normal"><span>在我国近代社会急剧的变化中,包括每一个普通或不普通的老百姓在内,都不可能不在观念、心理、行为上受到猛烈的冲击。悲观、失望、倔强、惶惑、无可奈何、消极隐退、还想有所作为而又找不到正当的途径,诸如此类的表现是既极复杂又难以尽言的。这是一个可以产生巨幅小说的时代,可惜却尚无足够份量的作品留下来。《断魂枪》只是个短篇小说,以其精炼与深刻,和题材的独具特色,多少弥补了这个缺憾。作者写作和发表这篇杰作的时候,我正在当他的学生。我曾亲自听他对我说,这是他用一部长篇小说的材料,努力压缩、提炼而写成这样一个短篇的,我还清楚记得他这样对我说时自信并欣悦的表情。我在两篇回忆老舍师的文章中写到过这件事,因为我非常喜爱这篇小说,知道老师自己也很喜欢它。由于他的名著很多,后来注意这篇小说的较少,但现在终于越来越得到广大读者的赏识,成为公认的一篇杰作了。</span><br><span> 清廷的腐败与愚蠢,在帝国主义的坚船利炮、科学文明面前,当然只有失败的命运。“东方的大梦没法子不醒了”,铁一样的事实便是“不大会儿,失去了国土、自由与权利。”而且敌人的胃口还大得很:“门外立着不同面色的人,枪口还热着。”老拳师沙子龙醒了没有?如果他没有醒,他的镖局不会已改成客栈,他知道走镖已没有饭吃,他的义气、声名、武艺、事业,都已梦似的变成了昨夜的东西。现在他身上已放了肉,白天大枪立在墙角,只在夜里把小院的门关好后,才再熟习熟习他的“五虎断魂枪”。武艺与往事已成过去,他的世界被狂风吹走了。孙老者一身武艺,特地还要来求他教给这套枪法,他笑了回答:“早忘净了! 早忘净了!”当然不是这个老者不值得他指拨,也并非他真的“早忘净了”,他是真的铁了心不愿再教任何人:“孙老者,说真的吧,那条枪和那套枪都跟我入棺材,一齐入棺材!”竟如此斩钉截铁,为什么?</span><br></p>
